    Hi,

I have set up canonical URLs for most of my pages, but google is picking them up as relative rather than absolute. Is there anyway that I can force an overide?

    Thanks,
    Joe

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

Could you please share the affected URL so we can check as well?

Meanwhile, when a URL that leaves of the http:// or https:// bit it becomes a protocol-relative URL. Using protocol-relative URLs within links or canonical URLs is not a recommended idea since it would still result in you having duplicate content issues between http and https versions of a website.

Here’s a link for more information:

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

So this has affected the entire website. In the Rank Math plugin, I have updated all canonical URLs to reflect the standard string i.e. https://website.com/ but in reality, I can only see <link rel=”canonical” href=”/”>.

Is there some way to override this to display the URL of choice?

    Thanks

    Hello,

Please share the actual URL of the website so that we can have a closer look.

You can add the URL in the sensitive data section of this ticket.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Please head over to your homepage editor and under Rank Math’s Advanced settings, ensure that the Canonical field is left empty:

    canonical

If the issue persists, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress login in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I logged into your website’s admin area and upon investigating, I found that the plugin “Minify HTML” is causing the issue and forcing the canonical URL to be added only as /. Please have a look at the screencast in the sensitive data section of this ticket for a quick reference.

Please get in touch with the devs of that plugin as they might already have a solution for the issue and they would be in a better position to assist you.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

    Hello,
