    Hello

I am trying to change my canonical URL. I understand how to do it and where to do it, but the area to change has the URL in it, but I am unable to make any changes.

  • Hello,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble changing the canonical URL. If you’re unable to make changes to the canonical URL field, it’s possible that you might not have the necessary permissions or there could be a conflict with another plugin.

To change the Canonical URL in Rank Math, you need to navigate to the Advanced tab in the Rank Math meta box. There, you should be able to edit the Canonical URL field to point to the main source of your content.

If you’re still unable to make changes, please ensure that you have enabled the advanced mode in Rank Math. You can do this by following these steps: How to Enable Advanced Mode.

If you’re still facing issues after enabling the advanced mode, please feel free to reach out to our support team directly from here: Rank Math Support. We’re here to help.

    I hope this helps!

    Hello,

I have done all that you have told me to do. I had all this done before I opened a support ticket. I used to use AIOSEO and have deactivated that plug-in, but I’m wondering if that is the issue, as I still can’t change my canonical URL. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,

Could you please confirm if you are referring to the gray text appearing in the canonical URL field?

    field

If so, then you can type the whole URL on that field if you want to change the canonical URL.

The gray text is a self-referencing canonical if your post/page is set to index since Rank Math automatically adds it to your site.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Thank you for being so helpful. I see that I can change it, but I cannot see the entire Canonical, and I cannot copy it or put my cursor in the box. I only want to change some of it, so what is the best way to ensure it is exactly how I want it to be?

    Thank you

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

The gray text is self-referencing, so it would match the actual URL of your posts/pages.

Unfortunately, the text cannot be edited since it is a placeholder only, and if you want to modify it, you may need to type the whole URL and then do modifications.

    Hope that helps.

Do you have a suggestion for seeing what is in the URL section now to see if I want to change it? I’m unable to copy it. With AIOSEO it is easy to do this, but I’m finding it challenging to navigate with Rank Math – which is very frustrating. Specifically, how do I modify it if I can’t see the entire canonical?

    Hello,

As Rank Math generates the self-referencing canonical, your page URL and the canonical URL should be the same. So, if you want, you can copy your URL for the browser address bar. The URL shown in the Canonical box is the full canonical URL of your page. You can check this screencast for reference: https://i.rankmath.com/v/4ukjHy

However, if we are missing here something, you can also share a screencast with us by using a tool like https://loom.com so that we can check the issue further for you.

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.
