    Hi Team,

I have some of my content on medium.com which i want to republish on my website. In rank math advanced tab when i set the canonical url to the medium link where the content was originally published and click on publish, the canonical url gets overridden to my website. Need your help to understand whats wrong?

  • Which settings do you want me to check exactly?

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

Apologies for the previous reply as the user is not from our support staff.

Please note that the canonical box’s purpose would be to inform search engines that it is a duplicate page and should not be indexed. It is assumed that the canonical URL is custom, and we do not include that in the sitemap as well:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/url-not-in-sitemap/#custom-canonical-url

Could you please share the affected URL so we can check? Also, share the canonical URL you have set that is getting overwritten.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

Following is the medium url i am trying to set as canonical url https://medium.com/dev-genius/orchestrating-choreographing-ecommerce-order-shipping-analytics-with-apache-beam-gcp-workflows-e8175104382e
For now i have saved the post as draft since i do not want it to be marked as duplicate content. Please suggest how should i publish it so that it can be troubleshooted by you

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

We’ve tried the URL you have shared as canonical, but it seems to be working fine.

Please ensure that your Rank Math plugin is already at its latest version:

If the issue still persists, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.

    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

We checked your site and found that you’re using the WP Force Lowercase URLs plugin on your website which is setting all the URLs to lowercase and that is being triggered in the API routes as well.

Please note that the REST API routes are case-sensitive and if you look closely at the route you’ll notice that it’s entirely in lowercase where our REST API route should end like this: updateMeta

Here the “M” should be in capital.

You can try to deactivate that plugin and then try to change the canonical URL on your post again.

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

Thank you for your help here. I am able to set the canonical links after disabling the mentioned plugin.

    Hello,

We are super happy that this resolved your issue. If you have any other questions in the future, know that we are here to help you.

If you don’t mind me asking, could you please leave us a review (if you haven’t already) on https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/seo-by-rank-math/reviews/#new-post about your overall experience with Rank Math? We appreciate your time and patience.

If you do have another question in the future, please feel free to create a new forum topic, and it will be our pleasure to assist you again.

    Thank you.
