BUG: Link of the post changes when editing an existing post

  • Hello Team,

    I don’t have the exact steps to reproduce but with the RM 1.0.48.2 I am facing this issue.

    I had created few posts and had defined custom permalink using the Rank Math options within the post and saved the draft, next day I re-opened the same post and did some modification and published the post.

    I had used the permalink(which I had added manually) in some other articles as internal links which were reporting as 404 by SEMRUSH so when I checked, I found out then when I published the post, the permalink has changed to the title of the post

    So I had to create a redirection.

    I have been getting this multiple times now for different posts as I cannot finish a post in one day so every other day when i save the draft, the permalink gets updated to the post title.

    The title of the post can be added as the slug of the post URL. This can be modified by editing permalink in Rank math meta box under General Settings.:

    Yes that is how I add the slug. But it gets changed when I click on “save draft”

    I am using classic editor and this is only seen with the current release I was on.

    I managed to reproduce the issue. It is happening sporadically. Now I cannot say if there is a conflict with any plugin but I have not changed anything in the environment.

    I still use “Disable Gutenberg” to use classic editor as always.

    I started seeing this only with 1.0.48.2 as I publish 20-30 posts per month and I never saw such issue earlier.
    My current RM version is 1.0.49

    I am afraid the BETA release also has the same BUG so I will rollback the update now

    The steps I tried:
    1. Updated RM plugin to beta version
    2. Cleared transients in RM
    3. Enabled Troubleshooting mode (switched theme to generatepress, enabled GP premium plugin required for the theme, disable Gutenberg plugin enabled, RM enabled, RM google indexing API enabled)
    4. Writing a new post and after doing all the changes, clicked on publish post and the slug changed again

    It is not so straight forward to reproduce the issue and even I am not sure what I am doing different when the issue occurs.

    I would like to understand the action plan here as we know there is a problem. May be it is a conflict with theme or the Gutenberg plugin.

    But how do you plan to address this? Assuming there is a conflict then what are the next steps as you are not able to reproduce this.

    Isn’t the RM plugin supposed to be compatible be Generatepress theme and disable Gutenberg plugin? Or any other theme or plugin in that matter? And if there is a conflict shouldn’t this be addressed?

    How would it help if I just reproduce this again? Will you know the code which causes this bug? Unless you enable some additional debug logs to understand the root cause?

    I have already done that, the troubleshooting mode was enabled with only two allowed plugins

    1. Generatepress theme
    2. Disable Gutenberg

    If I remove Gutenberg then my post gets publish with Gutenberg editor which I can’t use for my site. So this is my minimal requirement.

    Please use the Classic Editor plugin instead of Disable Gutenberg.

    That does the same thing and is maintained properly.
