Hello,
Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.
I checked your site and can confirm that our plugin is adding the meta description correctly to the pages. All the settings to allow Google to show a description in the SERPs are also correct. You can use the following tool to confirm that: https://rankmath.com/tools/meta-tag-analyzer/
Please wait for Google to crawl the site again and update the preview in the results. You can also use the URL inspection tool of your GSC account to check the last crawl date of the URLs.
Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you.
Hi, many thanks and I can see the data looks correct using your tool. I checked one on my groups currently on Google and can see the meta tags are set as “SpennyMoor >> My Local Community” which is incorrect.
Can you please check this and let me know what I can do to resolve this?
Thanks
Sorry, one last question, where can I find the sitemap for the groups on my site (there’s nearly 1000) so don’t want to submit them all manually.
Thanks
Hi
Can you please check this link in your meta tag analyser https://mylocalcommunity.org/groups/bridgend as I can see there is 153 characters but your analyser shows 983 so this could maybe the problem why the description does not display on search engines?
Hello,
1. Please note that it is a pretty common thing with Google these days. It happens with 70% of the results that even if everything’s fine, Google decides to show a different meta information for your search keyword, there is nothing you can do as Google sometimes ignores the custom meta info altogether and show something from the page’s content that matches the search intent better.
To understand more about this, please check this article: https://rankmath.com/kb/different-meta-title-and-description/
2. Groups aren’t in your sitemap at the moment. Please make sure you have included by setting it up on Rank Math > Sitemap Settings.
You can check your sitemap here: https://mylocalcommunity.org/sitemap_index.xml
Assuming you have already submitted your sitemap index, you don’t need to manually submit individual sub sitemaps or URLs as Google should be able to crawl them.
3. Right now, I am seeing 162
characters as seen in this screenshot:
Can you please clear your website cache and check again from your end?
Looking forward to helping you.
Hi may thanks for the response but I do not see the option to include groups into the site map?
Hello,
Can you please confirm if the Groups are registered as a post type or taxonomy in the sitemap settings:
There should be the Include in Sitemap option there for Groups that you can enable to include their sitemap in the main sitemap.
If they are not there, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/
You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/
We really look forward to helping you.
Hello,
I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?
Thank you.
Hi
I cannot see the groups sitemap anywhere so please use the login details to check why they are not visible and let me know if you require any further information from me.
Thanks again for your great support!
Hello,
Sorry to disappoint but currently Rank Math does not recognize these dynamically created BuddyPress pages for sitemap generation.
With that being said, there are existing feature requests, so we’ve added your vote to our internal suggestions lists. If your suggestions are something that we’re able to introduce, we’ll be sure to let you know.
You will need to manually create sitemap by following this guide: https://rankmath.com/kb/custom-sitemaps/
Hope that helps. If you have any further questions, please let us know.
Thanks for the response but I am not at an advanced level where I can add code snippets to files to manually create a sitemap for the buddypress groups. I guess I will have to wait for the feature request to be developed for this.
Hello,
You’re welcome.
We will notify everyone via the usual communication channels once this is added to our update.
