book schema url

  • Dear Rank-Math-Team,

i´ve got a question about the Book Schema, as it is described here: https://rankmath.com/kb/book-schema/
We are running a book-review-site, fridaygirl.de and we want to edit this Schema.
My question is, which URL do we have to insert (3. URL). Can we use the Google-Books-URL of that specific Book or do we have to take one of the publishing company? Is there another way to find the definitly correct URL? Or do we have to insert another URL?

I hope you can help me, because I didn´t found anything in the web.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

You should put the actual book URL in that field. For example, if you are talking about a book that is available on Amazon, then put the URL of the book page on Amazon. If you have your own book, put in the URL of the page from your publisher’s website.

For more guidelines regarding the Book Schema, you can check this link from Google:
    https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/book#guidelines

    I hope that helps.

Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us anytime if you need further assistance with anything else.

Thank you very much for your fast help.
So is the Book-Schema even the right one for our site. Because at the top of your linked Google-Guideline stands, that it is for sites, how provide or borrow books.
We only have reviews about it at our site. Do we have to use the Review-Schema?
But even the Google-Guidelines to this Schema links to the schema.org-Books-site – as you can see at the top of this site here: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/critic-review

Can you please help me with this? Thank you in advance.

    Hello,

    Thank you for the feedback.

Since you are not providing the books here you may need to stick with the article schema here. The book schema will fit well if you were actually providing users with a way of getting this book rather than only asking them to review it.

Here is what Google specifies when it comes to the URLs for the book schema.

Through links you provide, read actions and borrow actions send users directly from the knowledge panel and other Google surfaces to a book page on your website or app.

We also do not have a standalone review schema but instead, we use the review markup within other schema types. Here are some of the supported schema type: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-fix-review-schema-errors/#here-is-the-list-of-rank-maths-schema-types-which-supports-rating-options

I would recommend perhaps adding a way for users to get the book so that you are in a position to use the Book Schema alongside the reviews schema.

Hope this is helpful. Please let us know if you have any other questions for us.
    Thank you.
