Hi,
I just switched from Yoast to RankMath for my membership site and cannot see how to prevent gated content from being indexed. On Yoast it was automatically blocked. I use memberpress. How can I prevent membership content from showing up on google?
-
To be clear, I have Memberpress’s “Do not index protected content” setting clicked, like you can see HERE: https://docs.memberpress.com/article/157-seo-and-paywall
but the pages appear to still be marked to index.
Hello,
Thank you for contacting the support and we regret the inconvenience caused.
Could you please share some of the affected URLs so that we can have a closer look?
Looking forward to helping you.
Thank you.
Hi Prabhat,
Here are a few URLs: holisticbusinessacademy.com/members
holisticbusinessacademy.com/maKeep in mind they are all gated behind the membership, so if you need access to them fully I will need to add you to our WordPress.
Hello,
I tried checking the affected pages to Google and it seems it wasn’t indexed as you can see in my screenshot here:
However, we would like to check if the robots meta tag is correctly configured for these types of pages. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress login in the designated Sensitive Data section.
Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.
Hello,
I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?
Thank you.
Thank you. I did just get an error from Google Search Console that these two urls are returning 403, so they could not crawl it but it is still showing as index.
“Submitted URL returned 403: The server recognized Googlebot as logged in, but denied Google access to the content. If this page should be indexed, please grant access to anonymous visitors; otherwise, do not submit this page for indexing.”

So sorry about that! Should have been all one word. Is correct now. Thank you!
Hello,
I’ve checked those pages you mentioned above, and indeed they are set to index. However, I have already set them to noindex in the Advanced tab of Rank Math’s meta box upon editing them.
For the errors in your Google Search Console account, please revalidate it in the coverage section and give Google some time to recrawl your site.
I hope that helps.
Thank you.
Hi Reinelle,
So to clarify, even though Memberpress is automatically blocking search on the gated pages, they do need to be marked as noindex as well? Is there anyway for RankMath to pick that up automatically?
Hello,
In order to remove the pages from the sitemap, they should be marked as noindex otherwise they will be submitted to Google and you will get the errors in your GSC account.
And since the pages are not supposed to be indexed, there is no harm in setting them as noindex.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch in case you need any other assistance.
Thanks.
