    Hi there,
I need to Block indexing of EDD Download tags. I have already excluded EDD tags from sitemap.xml.
Can you give me the code to block that to be used in robot.txt ?
    Thanks for your support

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

You can achieve this by heading over to Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Download tags > Download Tag Archives Robots Meta and set this to “noindex” as shown below:
    Robots meta

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

Thanks for your reply Michael, done on my side!
Just wondering if this setting add a “live dinamic rule” on robot.txt or it add a specific rule about this.

I’m asking that because I have a custom robot txt file and what to be sure this setting about Tag can work together with custom robot.txt

    Thanks for your support.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

The Rank Math robots settings are applied to the tags dynamically without editing your robots.txt file. This should continue to work normally with your robots.txt.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Ok got it!
In case I would love (however) to add a rule for EDD Tags in robot.txt could you please mention the code that has to be added?
    Thanks!

    Hi Francesco,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I would not recommend this method for two reasons:

    1). Robots.txt creates dead links:
This is because search engines need to discover, crawl and index your pages. When certain links are blocked via this file, search engines can no longer crawl through those pages to discover others and new pages won’t be discovered.

2). Robots.txt denies links their value
A blocked link will deny link juice to other links that are connected to it since Google rewards sites that link to other pages.

I hope this info helps. Thank you.
