Hi,
I’m receiving in 404 monitor a lot of redirections like ?author=1, ?author=2… etc.
Can you help?
Thank you.

Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
Can you please share a screenshot of the 404 log on your 404 monitor page?
Also, if you can share some of the affected URLs, you may share them here as well so we can check them on our end.
Looking forward to helping you.
Hello,
I’ve tried checking the links you have shared, but it seems that they are private. Could you please check?
Alternatively, you can upload screenshots using this tool or add the affected URLs in the sensitive data section
It is completely secure, and only our support staff has access to that section.
Looking forward to helping you.
Thank you.
Hello,
Please note that we only report the 404s. We do not have information on how or why they are generated. You can get further insight into them by enabling the advanced monitor at WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > 404 Monitor:
https://rankmath.com/kb/monitor-404-errors/#advanced-404-monitorThat will give you more information like referrer and user-agent. You can use that information to track down the source or find out if it is just bots generating those errors.
You can also fix these errors by redirecting them to a related page on your website:
https://rankmath.com/kb/fix-404-errors/Or, you can add them to the exclusion list at WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > 404 Monitor > Exclude Paths
I hope that helps.
Thank you.
understand, but this author ?author=2… is a bot common thing? Is it related to an error on the website?
Hello,
Having 404 hits on a website is not necessarily a bad thing if those pages do not exist on the website.
As long as those pages are “true” 404 errors, meaning they don’t exist on your website, there’s nothing to worry about them.
However, Rank Math can only detect 404 errors and cannot determine the cause of the errors. If you suspect the errors are caused by a security threat you can use a security plugin like WordFence or Sucuri.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have questions.
