additional tag showing in google SERPs

I have discovered that for my website there is an additional tag added to every page and listing.

I first discovered this over a month ago, thinking Google made and error but after fixing everything on my side including Google Console and Rank math settings, it is still showing up!

I have searched and have not found any reason why this would be the case. I have checked settings and individual pages. This does not occur for other websites I own. Please advise why this is showing up in SERPs and how I can remove/edit.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math, and sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Could you please check if you have added this string to your Single Post Title under Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Single post title.

If you have not set any string and the issue persist, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

I also noticed that “Link suggestions” was turned on…could that be related?

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Link suggestions is related to Pillar posts so turning that off wouldn’t do much for your current issue.

You may check if you can see any unusual string added to this setting:

If you don’t see any and the issue persists, you may share your WordPress admin as instructed by my colleague so we can investigate this ourselves.

Thanks but you did not answer my questions.

So should string be %title% %sep% %sitename% ??? I have actually just changed them what on the page:

    %seo_title%

    then

    %seo_description%

does that work and ensure it will use the title tag I added to that page within Rank Math?

To be clear I am using pages not posts. On google it is adding this tag (which is the title of ONE page) to all the pages! You can see for yourself It was adding

Page Title – Sitename – (page title of another page)

This was then applied to ALL of the pages listed on my branded SERP (sitename).

    Hope that clarifies, thank you

What is the email address I can use for the Temp login?

    Hello,

Thank you for keeping in touch with us and apologies for the inconvenience.

It seems like you have already given the login link. Thank you for providing it.

The variable %title% %sep% %sitename% is actually the default SEO title so if you have this on the Global page meta settings or in the individual pages, this should perfectly work fine. You can also edit the format of these variables based on your preference. You may refer for more information about it here: https://rankmath.com/kb/variables-in-seo-title-description/

The %seo_title% and %seo_description% are only to be used in the Schema settings. This will also work on your website but it is much preferable to use %title% and %excerpt% instead.

Upon checking your individual pages, it looks like Google is still caching your pages and not using the updated title of your page. Please see the screenshot in the sensitive data section.

Can you please remove your sitemap from your Google Search Console and submit your primary sitemap? Your primary sitemap should look like this: https://www.mydomain.com/sitemap_index.xml.

Give Google a couple of days to recrawl your website and you should be able to see the updated titles.

Let me know how it goes. We are looking forward to helping you.

Hi, the site map is entered correctly and taken from Rank Math in this format.

I have removed and then re-added but it seems Google already recognizes…should I remove for a few days and THEN re-add?

    https://www.mydomain.com/sitemap_index.xml

    Google states:

    Submitted sitemaps
Sitemap Type Submitted Last read Status Discovered URLs
    /sitemap_index.xml Sitemap index Feb 17, 2021 Feb 17, 2021 Success 205

    Hello,

    Thank you for the update.

You can add now the sitemap so Google will see the updated version of your sitemap on its next crawl.

I also wanted to check if your site’s brand is set to Organic Vitamin C, which seems to be added by Google automatically to your posts. However, the credentials you have provided seem to be not working anymore.

If that is the case, that’s completely normal for Google to include your brand name in the titles automatically – even if you deliberately leave them out from your titles.

Here’s an article mentioning that as well.
    https://seo-gold.com/marcus-lemonis-website-seo-review/google-automatically-adds-brand-name-to-titles/

And a link to Google’s forums with replies from Experts saying that it is like that on purpose:
    https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/5328043?hl=en&msgid=5328043

If you wish to know Google’s guidelines on writing Good titles, here are the guidelines straight from the horse’s mouth:
    https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35624?hl=en

With that said, it largely depends on keyword intent too. For some keyword searches, your custom title might appear while for others – Google might append your brand name to the title and there is nothing you can do to force them to do otherwise. That is regardless of what SEO plugin you use.

I hope that helps. Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need further assistance.

    Hello,

Hi Ive updated login for temp login.

As far as I can tell there is nowhere in tags can be found “Organic Vitamin C” . This is NOT the brand name, the site title and brand is: Organic Shortlist so I dont know where this is coming from. Again, Ive updated and searched but cannot locate.

    Thanks again

    Hello,

Rank math is adding the correct met to your pages, you can confirm this by checking any if your page URLs with this tool: https://technicalseo.com/tools/google-serp-simulator/

However, the keyword Organic Vitamin C seems to be a major part of your site to the extent that if you search Organic Vitamin C organic shortlist, your site Ranks at the top.

Searching for Organic Vitamin C shortlist, your site appears at the top the same:
    img2

It seems the keyword is seen to be the focus of your site in which case Google may pick it up as your brand even when you have set another. You will need to optimize your site to your new Brand name and give it sometime for Google to recognize this and update the SERPs.

I hope that helps. Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need further assistance.

Hi Michael, Ok thank you for getting to the bottom of this!!!

I recognize the site is somewhat new and yes I believe have uses this term to illustrate the benefits of organic in general, but rather frustrating one goes through all this effort, essentially following Rankmath’s structure, and Google then decides unilaterally what to display.

    Hello,

    I do understand your frustration.

I also do believe that if you can keep working on developing and optimizing your site with variety of content, this issue will eventually resolved.

The SERPs results are not always permanent. Sites keep changing and Google also keeps changing their search algorithms. Given time, your optimized content will come to replace what appears on the SERPs at the moment.

If you do have any questions, we are here to assist.

    Thank you.
