Accidental permalink change – 404 errors

    Hey there!

I was getting 404 errors on fonts so I contacted my themes support. They suggested a soft reset of the permalinks by temporarily changing the permalink structure. So I changed it from /%category%/%postname%/ to just /%postname%/, but somehow it didn’t save as I changed back, so for about 24 hours it was set up wrong. Now Google is sending everyone to the wrong URL, so basically every visitor is getting a 404 error now.

Please, please help me! What should I do now? Just wait it out until Google has recrawled my website? Manually redirect every URL (I have about 170+ posts)? Or is there some automation I can use? Some posts have permalinks like this: https://www.fellomed.de/ratgeber/tipps-hund-katze/katzen-krallen-schneiden/

The website this is all about is https://www.fellomed.de/.

    Thanks for your help!
    Iris

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Usually, WordPress handles the redirection when you change your permalink structure. If that doesn’t work, you can create an individual redirection of each page which is very tedious.

Unfortunately, Rank Math doesn’t have an option to auto-redirect these types of changes in your permalinks.

You can however create multiple Source URLs that should redirect your URLs with category parent in them to post name:
    redirection.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
