429 Indexing Issue For 2 Months

I’ve changed the api key, I’ve waited days, nothing has changed. I turned off instant indexing. I make a lot of edits, so I think that’s what caused this. I used Bing’s indexing plugin and it gives me the same issue. How do I resolve the 429 indexing issue?

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

When you see a 429 error it means that the IP address of your website is sending too many requests to the API.

Also, that error suggests that you are exhausting the quota limit for the number of publishing requests per day.

Can you please confirm if you have selected the Auto-Submit Post Types? If yes, the post will be automatically sent to the IndexNow API when a post is published, updated, or trashed.

However, if you have other websites on the same server or are on shared hosting, There’s a possibility that other websites may be using up the quota.

I can suggest that you request more quota to serve the requests that your site is making by following the steps on the link below:
    https://developers.google.com/search/apis/indexing-api/v3/quota-pricing

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.

This doesn’t help me, I don’t have a google cloud account. I turned instant indexing off a few days ago. This is the only site I run, it’s hosted through wordpress and they told me to figure this out with you, since your plugin caused the problem.

    Hello,

Please note that if you have automatic submissions set for any post type, each time you save an edit to a post inside that post type it will trigger a submission:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-use-indexnow/#automatic-url-submission

This might cause a high number of submissions if you are constantly making changes and saving them.

To test and debug this further, can you please try disabling all post type that is under automatic submissions in your instant indexing settings?

    429

Then, wait for another 24 hours and try submitting again.

Let us know how this goes.

    Thank you.

I’m aware of the issue, I need a solution. I turned it off and waited and I still get the 429 error. Changing the API key changed nothing as well, how can this get fixed?

    Hello,

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I checked your site, and everything looks like it is set up correctly. Bing sets a quota of the number requests that can be made by your IP address. The error 429 may caused by other domains that share the same IP address reaching your daily quota. If there are other websites with the same IP address, there is nothing much we can do to prevent the error 429.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have questions.

    This is the only site.

    Hello,

We understand the frustration of having something not working but in this particular case, we are sure that the issue is not from the IndexNow API implementation.

If you have a couple of minutes to test this you can simply do it by installing the following plugin from Bing on your website: https://wordpress.org/plugins/indexnow/

It is also reporting an error when trying to submit an URL:

This excludes the odd possibility that the issue would be with our plugin and not a general issue with your server/website making the requests for the submission API.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch in case you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hello,
