    Hello,

Everytime we submit urls on the instant indexing, we get a 429 error message. We have checked our logs and nothing is showing up that could help us fix the issue. We have tried turning off Auto submit, and it’s still coming up with the error. Would really appreciate any assistance, thank you.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the 429 error when submitting URLs for instant indexing. The HTTP 429 response code means "Too Many Requests," indicating that your IP address has sent too many requests to the IndexNow API within a short period. This can happen if you exceed the quota of requests, which is set at 10,000 URLs per HTTP POST request.

Here are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue:

    1. Stop Submitting URLs Temporarily: Since you are receiving a 429 error, it is advisable to stop submitting your URLs to the IndexNow API for a while.

    2. Disable Auto-Submission: You mentioned that you have already tried turning off auto-submit, but please ensure that you have deselected all post types in the settings. You can do this by navigating to Rank Math SEO → Instant Indexing → Settings and clicking the Select / Deselect All button until the Posts, Media, and Pages options are unchecked.

Deselect auto-submission in the Instant Indexing Settings

    3. Check for Other Sites on the Same Server: If you have other websites on the same server or are on shared hosting, they may also be using up the quota, leading to the 429 error.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, please reply to this ticket with your site URL so that a human agent from our support team can assist you further. Thank you for raising this concern!

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

When you see a 429 error it means that the IP address of your website is sending too many requests to the API.

Also, that error suggests that you are exhausting the quota limit for the number of publishing requests per day.

If you have other websites on the same server or are on shared hosting, there’s a possibility that other websites may be using up the quota.

We suggest you install the following plugin from Bing on your website and try submitting some URLs to understand if the issue is only from the IndexNow API implementation: https://wordpress.org/plugins/indexnow/

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.

Hello, Thanks for responding. We’ve tried the indexnow plugin and that throws up a submission failed error too. We’ve tried the bing webmaster tool submission plugin here https://wordpress.org/plugins/bing-webmaster-tools/ and that seems to work? So we’ll use that option instead as we couldn’t figure out how to solve the 429 on indexnow.

    Hello,

If 429 keeps on showing for Rank Math’s IndexNow feature but not on Bing’s official one, this is something we need to investigate on your website.

Let us know if you want us to do that and share your website’s WP admin login here.

    Looking forward to helping you.
