    Hi Rank Math Support Team,

Today My ranking has a huge drop ( I think it is because of the 404 or redirection issue I found it on my GSC )

My website is Giftsdepot.my, I need your advice on 404 or redirection how to improve back my ranking

    Example A :
If I have some old post/page which google has been crawled & index a few years ago but the page I don’t want anymore
and won’t update it in the future

    Q: I need to set it to A ( default 404 ), B ( redirect to Homepage ) or C ( custom redirection -301 , 302 , 307 , 410 or 451 ) ?
Which one is the better way? because currently Google is detected ” redirection error “.

    Example B :
I have many products on my website, some product is deleted won’t restock anymore, so regarding the deleted product which Google
has been crawled and indexing, how should I do for a fix for those ” deleted product “? I think Amazon.com or Ebay also facing thousand and million of deleted products, how they fix the issue?

Q: I need to set the product to default 404? Just let it looks natural, this item has been deleted or redirects to 301 or 410?

Need your advice on this. Big Thanks

    Ray

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

You should try to redirect to a page that is useful for the user coming through that link.

For example, in the case A, I would redirect it to a page with similar content (with a 301 redirection) and if not possible, I would just redirect it to the homepage.

In case B, it is the same. If you have a similar product, I would redirect it to that one, if not, I would redirect to the homepage or just leave a 404 error page (since you want that result to be deleted from Google).

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
