404 errors since dns transfer

Hi there, I recently started having a lot of issues with my site. Basically, my domain name was trasnsferred automatically by a domain name registrar (123 reg) who took over the domain name from a previous company (domainmonster) after domain monster went out of business. Since they began the transfer, i’ve had a lot of problems with the integration of my site with other site (paypal payments for example). These issues now seem to be ok, but I now have a problem where the server memory limit is being exceeded, causing the site to crash. I’ve noticed that I’m getting a lot more 404 errors in the log, in particular from this user-agent:

    facebookexternalhit/1.1 (+http://www.facebook.com/externalhit_uatext.php)facebookexternalhit 1.1

I’ve added one of the URI below. They all start the same, and then the string of letters and numbers afterwards are different.

Do you know what might be causing this? Is there anything i can do to fix it? Any help would be amazing as we are unable to run our business at the moment…

    Thanks, Richard.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

Since you mentioned that the server memory limit is being exceeded which causes your site to crash, you would need to set these PHP values on your website. If you’re not sure how to do it, please contact your hosting team and ask them for assistance:

    PHP Memory Limit: 512M
    Max input time: 150
    PHP time limit: 120
    PHP max input variables: 1000

If the issue persists, please also include the domain in the affected URL to further investigate.

I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

    Hi Reinelle,

Thank you so much for your reply and help with this πŸ™‚

I’ve increased the PHP Memory limit to 512M. The rest of the PHP values are already the same or more.

Do you know what could be causing all those 404 errors though? Could it just be that there hasn’t been enough memory? It seems strange that it would suddenly be a problem having not been before this week?

    My URL is: http://www.cornishseaweedbath.co.uk

    Thanks again, Richard.

    Hello,

    Thank you for following up.

These are just Facebook’s crawlers/linters who are visiting your pages periodically to update the OpenGraph data and this isn’t something you can control. Since you mentioned that it threw 404, it seems that they have crawled your website when your site was crashing due to memory limit or in the process of transfer.

I hope that helps. Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need further assistance.

Thanks so much Reinelle for explaining and for your help… We’re putting our Ads back on now, hopefully it won’t crash again!

    Thanks πŸ™‚ Richard.

    Hello,

Thank you for keeping in touch with us.

I am glad that clears your questions. Let us know how it goes. Do you need our assistance with anything else?

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for your message, yes there is one other problem we’re having. It’s an issue of having 2 different aggregate ratings on our product pages. Below is a reply from our new review plugin support (We are having trouble with google reviews in that they are not functioning because we have 2 different aggregate ratings. Could this be an issue somehow from RankMath?)

    Here is the reply:

“We see that RankMath is somehow still pulling this information.

    For example from product
    https://www.cornishseaweedbath.co.uk/product/100g-pure-seaweed-soap/
RankMath is pulling 2 different AggregateRatings, Judge.me’s with 133 reviews, and another with 64 reviews.

We’re not sure from where this AggregateRating is being pulled, but we would guess the native WooCommerce review system.
Or perhaps this has to do Product Feed Pro, as you say, but we’re not sure about it because this plugin works more on the Feed side.

In our experience, RankMath is a good plugin and once installed you wouldn’t need to do much else.
RankMath is actually building the Structured Data on your product page, and we think they’re doing this correctly except for the double AggregateRating. You can be checking the Product Tab in your structured data at this link:

    https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool/u/0/#url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cornishseaweedbath.co.uk%2Fproduct%2F100g-pure-seaweed-soap%2F

We think there’re some alternatives to solve the double AggregateRating issue:
    – Disabling the woo native reviews, as we said
    – Cleaning your cache to make sure the product page is not being built with old data
    – Ask RankMath about this duplicated AggregateRating, so they probably can get rid of it
    – Send us an admin access so we can check further

In Woocommerce, importing new email review requests can only be done with a Spreadsheet CSV file, so you’d just need to make sure that the requests are not contained twice in the same file for the same customer. You can use the filters in a spreadsheet software to remove, for example, different rows addressed to the same customer, or different rows addressed to the same customer AND to review the same product.”

    Thanks πŸ™‚

    Hello,

The Structured data testing tool has been deprecated for sometime now and we usually recommend using the Google Rich Results test tool. In this case, your reviews have no errors here: https://search.google.com/test/rich-results?id=VQfUpY4ms5zDfqTijGasZg

That said, it seems your review plugin is adding individual Reviews to your product structured data. It is recommended to use the aggregate rating especially when your products has that much reviews.

Please also check if you have WooCommerce reviews enabled in WooCommerce > Settings > Products: https://i.rankmath.com/vKyaBj

Let us know if this helps

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for your reply. I’ll get back to the review plugin support about individual vs aggregate reviews to the structured data. They actually asked me to disable woocommerce reviews, because their plugin adds reviews to the site?

    Thanks, Richard.

    Hello,

Let us know if they have any queries related to Rank math, we will be glad to assist.

I would advise to follow up on their recommendation and disable WooCommerce reviews

    Thanks
