404 error on new product categories

  • I am having a problem creating new product categories on my woocommerce website.

    When I create a new product category the url displays as a 404 error.
    If I disable Rank Math the url displays properly without a 404 error and when I reactivate Rank Math the url continues to display correctly.

    I have turned off all plugins except for woocommerce and rank math whilst using my theme Flatsome and the problem still happens
    If I run the woocommerce and rank math plugins with the twenty nineteen theme the new category displays correctly from the start.

    This has only been a problem since the update to 1.0.30.2 [Jul 23, 2019], previously adding product categories worked fine with all my plugins and flatsome.

    I have been able to replicate the conflict with Flatsome on your site and I will pass this on to our dev team for closer investigation.
    I have deactivated the “Remove Category Base” option in Rank Math and installed the Premmerce WooCommerce Manager plugin that has this functionality on your site.

    What was the problem in the end?

    Sorry, the problem isn’t fixed. It appeared to be ok but Michael Davis’s work around was still active. With Premmerce deactivated and Rank Math category base removal reactivated, the 404 problem is back.

    General Settings – Woocommerce – remove category base ON the 404 problem is still there when adding a new product category.

    The problem also extends to WordPress post categories with Premmerce turned off and Rank Math category base removal switched on.

    The only way I can get new categories to show with category base removal active is to deactivate and reactivate Rank Math

    It looks like the permalinks are not getting flushed when a new category is created.
    I’ve forwarded this issue to our development team, they will further debug this issue and release an update if needed with the fix.

    For now, please update the permalinks after creating a new category instead of deactivating and reactivating the Rank Math plugin, that should fix the 404 issue.

    I have installed the new update Version 1.0.31 but the 404 error is still there.

    Please try flushing the permalinks one more time, that should solve the 404 issue and it should not come up anymore with the new version.

    To flush the permalinks, you just need to navigate to Settings > Permalinks. Simply visiting the page should do it, but you can also click on the Save button once to make sure.

    If the issue comes up again, please let us know, and we will take another look at this.

    I’ve tried flushing the permalinks and it only worked for adding one category – I have to visit the permalinks page every time I add a new category. Unfortunately its not a long lasting fix for the problem.

    I also have the following 404 error showing up in 404 Monitor on any new products added, don’t know if its related:

    tents/tent-accessories/tent-poles/oztrail-fibreglass-tent-pole-kit-9-5mm/feed
    tents/tent-accessories/tent-poles/oztrail-fibreglass-tent-pole-kit-12-5mm/feed
    tents/tent-accessories/tent-poles/oztrail-fibreglass-tent-pole-kit-7-9mm/feed

    Please check the screen recording I added in the Sensitive Data Section. You don’t have to flush the permalinks every time you create a new product category, just reload the page once.

    Thank you the Product category 404 issue seems to be resolved.

    I am still getting errors on the 404 error monitor whenever google crawls any new products added. The 404 errors always have the format:

    productcategory/subcategory/productname/feed

    Any suggestions on this?

    It looks like you’ve disabled feeds on your site. Please add below code in robots.txt file ( which should be in the root folder ):

    
    Disallow: /feed 
    Disallow: /comments/feed 
    Disallow: /feed/$ 
    Disallow: /*/feed/$ 
    Disallow: /*/feed/rss/$ 
    

    This will prevent the Search engines from crawling the feeds URL.
