301 Redirects Not Working

    Hi,

Every once in a while, I check the RankMath 404 error logs and try to redirect pages/items that are dead or throwing 404 errors and also getting a lot of traffic to a more relevant page.

I’m trying out the RankMath redirect feature and when I try to redirect one of those dead URLs to a different page, it does not work. The change is not reflected in the 301/Redirect section of RankMath.

I did previously have a dedicated 301 redirect plug in however I disabled that and tried RM’s feature, and it still does not work. See images below.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Stephen

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for the delay and for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

The settings you have provided to perform a redirect seem to be correct.

Could you please head over to Rank Math > General Settings > Redirections and enable the Debug Redirections? This will then help in checking if any redirections are taking place.

You can also check this link for more information:

I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

I’ve already done that. Debug Redirections is already enabled.

    Hello,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Could you please verify that the Redirections table exists on your database? You can do that by going to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Status & Tools > System Status and check the Rank Math tab.
    Redirections table

In case the tables are not created let’s try to recreate them by heading over to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Status & Tools > Database Tools and press the “Re-create Tables” button.
    Re-create tables

After doing this you should be able to insert the redirections correctly.

Let us know if this fixes the issue.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

    Thanks for the details.

I can confirm that the “Redirection” and ‘Redirection Cache’ DB’s were not established previously.

I’ve followed what you said however it does not appear that this has (re) created the databases.

I’m going to give it a few hours to see if something changes but is there something else I should try if this is not working? Or is there something I should talk to my host about if something is blocking your plugin from creating the tables/DB?

    Thanks
    Stephen

    Hello,

Thanks for getting back to us.

The process of creating the database tables could take a couple of minutes to complete.

If after a while the tables are still not created you could get in touch with your hosting provider and ask them to create the tables for you by using this sample SQL code: https://pastebin.com/yF5LPSya

Hope this helps solve your issue.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you require any further assistance.

I talked to my host and I had them create the new tables per the instructions you have detailed above.

I am seeing the new tables in the mySQL, however the RM redirect capability still does not seem to be working on my site. I’ve cleared cache and reloaded the pages and tried enabling several redirects and nothing is happening.

Not sure what may be the issue.

    Hello,

    Thanks for your reply.

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    Hello,

Thank you for following up, and sorry for the delay.

I’ve checked the redirections table, and they are still showing don’t exist. However, I’ve already passed this issue to our dev team for further investigation and will get back to you shortly. We really appreciate your kind patience regarding this matter.

Meanwhile, please don’t hesitate to contact us anytime to assist you further with anything else.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Your hosting provider created the redirections tables wrongly. They didn’t make the appropriate changes to the tables prefix and that’s what’s causing the issue here.

I changed the code to the appropriate one to use on your website, executed the query and now the tables show correctly in the database.
    All tables created

Lastly, I tested adding a redirection and it showed correctly.

This should fix the issue for good.

Let us know if you have any other questions or require any further assistance.
