    Hi Rank Math team!

    Happy holidays 🙂

I’m getting a success message on my sitemap, found at the link below but for some reason the discovered URL’s is at 0. Looks like the troubleshooting you have is for if the sitemap has a 404, but it does work but not being read correctly by google. Thanks for your help.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

This is likely because your sitemap is being cached. Could you please exclude your sitemap URLs from being cached then do the following:

    1. Head over to WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks

    Hit the save button once.

    2. Go to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Sitemap Settings

    Hit the save button once.

You can then validate your sitemap in https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/validate-xml-sitemap.html and if it is valid, resubmit on your GSC.

I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

Thank you for your response! I’ve done this and looks like I’m getting an error when I do the test on https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

    Incorrect http header content-type: “text/html; charset=UTF-8” (expected: “application/xml”)

Could you please check the following:

    1) Is the sitemap working fine in your browser? You can check that by going domain(.)com/sitemap_index.xml

    2) Have you verified the correct version of your website on Google? Please check if you have verified the www (or non-www) and https (or http) version of your website. If there is a mismatch, please fix that. You can check your site’s status from https://httpstatus.io/ it needs to have a status code 200 OK to work.

    3) Make sure you have cleared the cache and excluded Google bot from seeing a cached version of your sitemap.

I hope this helps resolve your issue.

Hey Daniel! Thanks for the comments.

    1. Yes, when I go to /sitemap_index.xml it shows up and works.
    2. Yes I have verified the https and non-www version is what I am using in Google. I also confirmed that I get a status code 200 on the site.
    3. I have excluded the google bot and per your previous instructions cleared the cache

    Still not working

When I go to the https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ and test the sitemap it comes up with 0 url preview as well. 0 pages indexed and 0 mb page size. W

    Hello,

Checking your Sitemap from the validation tool site, I do see it working. Refer to screenshot in Sensitive Data.

Once you have done that you should delete the current sitemap, submit a new one and wait for Google to re-crawl and re-index your site. It would normally take a few days.

I hope this resolves your issue.

    Hello,

I see a “You need access, request access” when trying to open the link. Could you please set it to open?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Can you try flushing your sitemap?

Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/xXXhDt

Go to Rank Math > Sitemap Settings > Links Per Sitemap > Set to 201 & Save Changes

Go to Settings > Permalinks > Save Changes.

Can you also provide a screenshot of how you set your Cloudflare?

    I hope this helps.

My sitemap was setup to have 1000 links per sitemap, so I have changed to 200. Saved the permalinks and then resubmitted but still showing 0 discovered urls in search console.

What setting would you like to know in cloudflare?

    Hello,

I see that Cloudflare is caching your sitemap. It would help if you created a Page Rule to exclude the sitemap.
    https://i.rankmath.com/NIvre

Please refer to this link from our KB:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/#cloudflare

Once you have excluded the sitemap, try flushing your permalink and clear cache and see if it works.

I hope this resolves your issue.

Thanks for your help, I added a Cache level bypass rule in cloudflare, saved permalinks and flushed the cache yesterday and the sitemap shows last crawled today but still no urls.

    Hello,

Thank you for your update, and sorry for the delay.

I’ve checked your sitemap, and it seems that it is already working fine. However, it seems that it is still being cached by W3 Total Cache (Please see the screenshot in the Sensitive Data section).

Could you please follow the steps in this link:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/#w3-total-cache

After that, flush your sitemap cache, remove all sitemaps you have submitted and resubmit only your main sitemap /sitemap_index.xml

I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

    Thanks for your continued help.

I already added that from previous instructions you gave me. Actually according to this thread by W3 total cache, is you have the wording

“Page Caching using disk: enhanced (Requested URI is rejected) ”

Which I do on the sitemap as well as on the screenshot you sent, then the page is being excluded from the cache.

Please let me know another fix.

    Hello,

Thank you for keeping in touch with us.

Upon inspecting your sitemap URL in HTTP Status checker, it seems the sitemap is returning a 503 error. I tried to re-run the test multiple times and it does return with this error.
    503
