How to Fix 429 Error with IndexNow API » Rank Math
Hello,
Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
Please note that Bing sets a quota for the number of requests that can be made by your IP address. This rate limit is not handled by our plugin.
If you want, you can install the following plugin from Bing on your website and try submitting some URLs to understand if the issue is only from the IndexNow API implementation or not: https://wordpress.org/plugins/indexnow/
Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.
Thank you.
Thanks Rakibuzzaman Siam. Yes we have already tried this and recieve an error when submitting a URL
We only seem to have this issue we websites that are hosted with 20i (whom the IP addresses I supplied belong to)
All of our sites that are hosted with other hosting providers are able to submit URLs with no problem.
See this video as an example

Thanks

Hello,
The fact that with a different plugin, you get the same status code should be a clear indication that the culprit here is not our plugin or the other IndexNow plugin you used to test the submission.
The 429 error codes come directly from the response of the Bing API and that would indicate that the issue is directly with the IP address of the website.
The testing clearly indicates this is an issue with the hosting provider being used so we would recommend checking this with them and you can even share the test done using the IndexNow plugin which should provide a clear indication the issue is not with our plugin.
Thank you.
Hi Miguel
We know its a problem with the host company.
Our hosting company have replied to us and said the following
“To resolve this, you would need to contact RankMath to ask them for the rate limit to be raised for our Outbound IP Addresses. The IPs in question can be found here: https://docs.20i.com/web-hosting/ip-address-external-connections.”
Is this something you are able to implement for us?
Thanks
Tom
Hello,
We can’t increase the rate limit as it isn’t set by our plugin. Bing sets the quota for submissions from an IP, and only they can control or change it. Our plugin only integrates the IndexNow API into your site, so you don’t have to do it manually.
Please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
Thanks Jaideep
Our sites are on shared hosting – could this be the reason why we are seeing these 429 errors
do other people on shared hosting have similar problems?
Thanks
Tom
Hello,
Yes, this is a known issue with IndexNow on shared hosting. You should switch to a dedicated hosting service if you want to use IndexNow API without any issues.
Please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
