    Hi

I’ve never had any issue publishing links from my website to facebook now all of a sudden I cant get the links to show a preview of the page for no apparent reason. I googled this and found a debugging tool which came up with the above error and your guide to advise setting up a developer app. I am not a developer and don’t want to set up a developer app. As I say this hasn’t happened before so I am hoping you can help me diagnose what has caused this to happen now and help me fix it ?

    Kind regards

    Andrew

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math, and sorry for any inconvenience caused.

You can use the default APP ID: 966242223397117.

Head over to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Social Meta, and enter the App ID in the Facebook App field.
    app id

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

The reason I used the bug checker is when I added a url to a facebook post the page preview wouldn’t show. I just added the app id as advised and tried posting a url and it still doesn’t show the page preview ? Can you help again please

    Kind regards

    Thanks for your response Anas

Did you try posting that on Facebook itself because previews still aren’t showing on Facebook for me ? I’m not sure exactly what the debugger does as its never been needed before but if it creates new links I shouldnt need to do that, if it debugs links meaning I can then use them in facebook that didnt work before but again, I shouldn’t need to do that and dont want to have to do this every time I want to publish to facebook. If I am missing something please explain.

    Thanks

    Andrew

    Hello,

I tried composing a new post and the thumbnail preview shows up coming from the og:image meta tag as you can see in my screenshot below:

    image

I checked your website and it seems that everything is in order. The meta and the actual image is in the recommended configuration.

Please try to temporarily disable any plugins that offer gzip compression and see if the social preview is working on your end?

In addition, please also clear your website and browser cache and further test.

Let us know how that goes.

    Looking forward to helping you.

The only compression plugin I have is yours but if you were able to publish with a preview that cant be the problem anyway can it ?

Did you post it direct to facebook not through your platform or the debugging tool or anything else ?

    Kind regards

    Andrew

    Hello

Rank Math does not have any compression functions that would affect the loading of images on Facebook.

I tested the URL with both Facebook and the Facebook Sharing Debugger and the preview was displayed. Screenshot:

Previews may not be working consistently for you due to cache which should refresh after some days. Could you try viewing the shared link from another browser/device as that might work.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have questions.

I’ve tried incognito and firefox and as you can see hear I still have the same issue https://we.tl/t-VCHZ5f9OPB I never said the issue was image compression, I just googled the issue and the results that came up said this was an issue related to rank math.

However, I have tried deactivating rank math and that doesnt make any difference.

Smush is responsible for image compression on my site, so I tried disabling that and that didn’t make any difference either. However, i will contact them as well, to see if they have any ideas but if you can keep workig with me i would appreciate it.

    Kind regards

    Hello,

I tested your homepage URL again and the preview was generated both in the debugging tool and when creating a new post on Facebook. This time I recorded a screencast: https://i.rankmath.com/N0GG5e. I also tested with a third party tool and the preview was showing: https://smallseotools.com/open-graph/.

Image compression doesn’t look like it’s affecting anything so we can rule that out for now.

For the homepage, Please try setting a different og:image then let us know, just in case it’s also cache for a working thumbnail that is showing for us. We can then test the URL again on Facebook and the debugging tool. Beyond that, there’s nothing much we can do because the preview seems to be working from our side and with third party tools. We’d recommed you wait a few weeks and try again.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you Nigel

I think the issue might actually be something to do with my FB account. Because if I post my page to other FB pages the preview works. I googled this and it refers to force clearing the cache which I’ve triend but that didnt work.

Maybe I could give you login details to my FB account to try it for yourself ?

    Kind regards

    Andrew

    Hello,

Accessing the Facebook account of any user would fall outside the scope of our support and as such, we cannot debug the situation from that point of view.

What we can recommend is that you go to the Facebook Share Debugger and scrape the page again while logged in to your account to see if that helps solve the issue: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/

Hope this helps solve your issues.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.
