I think I’ve gotten around the issue. I had the staging site password protected which I removed. Also, skipping one of the Rank Math activation steps got me into the wizard.
The issue I face now is how to properly activate it so I can test it out. It asks me to link to Google Search Console, for example, but this is a staging site and I don’t want Google crawling it.
Can you point me to information on how best to try out Rank Math on a staging site?

You need to activate your Rank Math account to be able to access the SEO analysis feature and to unlock all the features.
Please head over to Rank Math > Dashboard > Help and click on the Blue activate button to activate your account.

I tried that. Multiple times. But on my staging site it doesn’t seem to work. A similar issue was posted by another user https://support.rankmath.com/ticket/plugin-not-working-on-staging/ and Rank Math support seemed to indicate that the staging site needed to be added to the account.
When I try to Blue Activate, it attempts to go to the live site. It appears that I cannot test the plugin on my staging site (which is the whole point of using the staging site).
