Updates not working with Rank Math active

    Hi,
    I just installed Rank Math recently and today I noticed something strange:

    If I want to update or delete a plugin/theme from the WordPress-Backend the update is not working.
    Error Message: “the folder cannot be created”

    If I deactivate Rank Math everything works fine, but if I activate Rank Math the updates from the WordPress-Backend are not working.

    In Rank Math Status I can see: the plugin/theme-folders are marked as “Not writable” – but they are if Rank Math is deactivated.

    What can I do?
    Adding this “add define( ‘FS_METHOD’, ‘direct’ );” to the wp-config.php doesn’t help.

    Hello,

    Your site is showing a popup asking for a username & password when I try to login using the temporary access link.

    Please check the screenshot I added in the sensitive Data Section.

    Hello,

    I don’t see define( ‘FS_METHOD’, ‘direct’ ); code in the wp-config.php file on your site. I wanted to add it but you have disabled the file edit from admin. Can you please enable it or please add your site’s FTP access details in the Sensitive Data Section.

    I tried it but since it didn’t work I deleted it.
    If you tell me where to exactly put

    the add define( ‘FS_METHOD’, ‘direct’ );

    in the wp-config-file I will put it in again.

    Hello,

    We have taken note of this issue and we will include a permanent fix for it soon.

    For now, please comment out the following line in the plugin:

    https://github.com/rankmath/seo-by-rank-math/blob/master/vendor/mythemeshop/wordpress-helpers/src/helpers/class-wordpress.php#L75

    This should fix the issue.

    Hello,

    Thanks for getting back to us.

    The line currently reads like this define( 'FS_METHOD', 'direct' ); and it should read // define( 'FS_METHOD', 'direct' );.

    This will comment out that line and should help solve the issue.

    OK – that is working.
    Bud sadly the Update of the Plugin today overwrote it so I had to change the code again.

    I tried that at the beginning of this process – that doesn’t work (see my first message).

    So I wait for an update to fix the problem without having to edit the plugin files.

    Sorry for the delay and thank you for your patience.

    We would love to debug this issue further but it seems that the WP temporary login credential is not working https://i.rankmath.com/jgvAvb on our end.

    I found out what was causing the problem – I had to change the user-rights on my server.
    Now everything is working fine.
