I wanted to ask about this: Your server is not using expires header for your images.

Is there anything that could be done?

We are not using apache server and from WPEngine, I was told this:

“Thank you, so your site is not actually utilizing the .htaccess file since you are on php 7.4 – something to mention is we are in the works of removing php 7.3 (which reads the htaccess) this November. Here is an article on php 7.4: https://wpengine.com/support/htaccess-deprecation/

So from here you’ll want to reach out to the plugin author to convert those headers from .htaccess to Nginx headers.”

  • Hello,

Thanks for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

If you are not using an Apache server and don’t have a .htaccess file then you can use a caching plugin. We suggest using a caching plugin like W3 Total Cache which can add expires header to your images, combine your CSS and JS files to load from a single site respectively.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

WP3 total cache is not a plugin approved by WP Engine as it clashes and creates a lot of errors with the WP Engine servers.

    Any other solutions?

    Hello,

Since that plugin is not accepted by WP Engine, you can try using WP Rocket which seems an accepted solution to use on those servers.

Alternatively, you can add the rules to your Nginx config file and ignore the error in the SEO Analysis if you know for sure that you have the headers already set.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

There are more plugins so I think I’d need a specific link to know which is the right plugin for this.

    Thank you 🙂

    Hello,

WP Engine recommends the WP Advanced Cache Plugin.

WP Engine also has a list of disallowed caching plugins.

I hope that helps. Let us know if you have questions, we are here to help.

    HEY GUYS.

I installed the WP Advanced cache plugin and now?

Can I get some guidance as to what to do next, please?

    Thank you 🙂

    Hello,

The WP Engine recommendation recommendation I sent says to go to Settings > Cache Settings. I tried that but could not find anywhere with cache settings for images. It may be better to contact WP Engine Advanced Cache support or WP Engine support for help as they will have more experience with this problem.

I hope that helps. Thank you.
