WP Page Posts Titles

    Hello there,

this is the single biggest and most pressing question we’ve had for years now. And you can help us with this, we would be ever so kindly and warmly appreciative.

    1. On WordPress, whether using the Elegant Themes Divi Builder or the Guttenberg WP builder, there is the need to enter a Page or Post title. Which of course, also and then becomes the permalink.

    2. Our SEO plugin then comes in and based on the WordPress blog General > Site settings, adds the Blog Site Title at the very end (depending on what we set for the titles of course).

    3. The WP Guttenberg builder or the Elegant Themes Divi Builder then enables one to write content and thus paragraph(s) which would be in need of an H1 header. But, if we do not create one; the SEO plugin then states that there be an H1 or the SEO scoring system comes back saying your missing the H1—despite the page post title already being the “H1” as we are told over and over.

    4. In the Extra Theme Settings options to the right of each Page (haven’t seen it on the Posts), the sidebar gives one an option to check the box for “Hide Title and Meta on Post” which now makes the Page Title (‘H1″ assuming) disappear.

    The confusion starts here:

    a. If the page or post title IS the H1 why then are we asked repeatedly by the SEO plugin to add an H1?

    b. If the page or post title is hidden do we now then have to go back and add an H1?

    c. Tools like ahrefs and semrush come back saying things like, “You have two H1s or your missing an H1.”

    d. When creating WP Menu navigation items, the menu allows one to completely modify the “title” of the page to something very brief so it works with the navi menu, but which leaves all of us to guess if that then modified the title of the page title?

    e. When pages come up in SERPs, the page title is displayed but then when a page is clicked through on, the page itself shows the original page title in the Chrome tab for example when you hover but then shows the H1 title as the title of the page.

Thank you kindly for help on this matter. Sincerely.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

1). The page title is not the H1. Most theme authors will use the page title on the h1 tag on the page and this will normally appear as shown below on the page source code:
    h1 tag
If the SEO analysis is reporting that you do not have a h1 tag, then you will need to get in touch with your theme author so that he/she can help to edit the page template and wrap your post titles in this tag.

2). This one as well will depend on the theme that is running on your site but the post title is required to be able to publish a post and thus this will always be available on the template but your theme might hide it.

3). It is possible that your theme is not making use of standard naming practices when assigning class names to the elements on your page and the letters h1 might be appearing on other class names. Kindly share one of the affected URLs so that we can check this to be certain.

4). The < title > tag is a different tag that is added by SEO plugins and this is what will appear as the page title on SERP results. You can customize the title and description from the Rank Math metabox or the General Settings page under “Titles and Meta”.

5). The title that will appear on the browser is the same one mentioned in (4) above. If this is the same as the post title then it will appear on the window. If your theme does not support title tag, you will get an option to automatically add this under Rank Math > Titles & Meta settings page.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
