WordPress favicon appears in search results

    Hello,

I recently noticed that the default wordpress favicon is appearing in our search results, rather than our own custom favicon. Can you tell me why that is?

You can see an example here: https://www.google.com/search?q=soothing+shade&oq=soothing+shade

Our custom favicon appears elsewhere, e.g. in the browser tab, but in the google results I see the wordpress favicon. I don’t see any favicon on Firefox, but it appears on Google Chrome and possibly some other browsers.

The only thing I can think of is that the favicon is stored in the theme directory. Could it be that it should be saved in the root directory of the website instead?

    Thanks in advance.

    Looking forward to your response!

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

However, please note that Rank Math has no control over how the favicon will appear on the SERP. The images on Google SERPs are not controlled via the Schema markup or any plugin, it mostly depends on the keyword search term and the website authority.

You can check these Google guidelines on how to ensure that your favicon is set up to show on the search results page.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.
