Why Aren’t My Updated Meta Descriptions Showing in Google SERP

I’m encountering a problem with my website, https://costcofoodcourtmenu.com/, where updated meta descriptions for some pages are not appearing in Google SERPs, even after weeks of being updated. The meta descriptions are correctly set using Rank Math and are visible in the page source. To address this, I’ve cleared the website cache, ensured all affected pages are indexed in Google Search Console, manually submitted the URLs for re-crawling, and verified that the updated meta descriptions are live on the website.

For example, on one page, I updated the description to “Explore Costco’s Food Court Menu with detailed insights on prices, nutrition, and secret menu hacks.” However, Google is still displaying the old description, “Discover Costco Food Court items, deals, and more.” I’m wondering if this discrepancy could be due to Rank Math, Google’s algorithm overriding my meta description, or another technical issue. Are there additional steps I can take to resolve this, such as improving the relevance of my meta descriptions to match user search intent? Any advice would be highly appreciated.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Please note that it is common for Google to do this nowadays. Even when everything is fine, Google may choose to display a different meta title and description for a search result.

Google sometimes adjusts the title and description according to the search intent. Google may choose to display a different meta title for search query results. Google may sometimes ignore the custom metadata you have set and instead display something from the page’s content that better matches the search intent.

You can follow this URL for details on this issue: https://rankmath.com/kb/different-meta-title-and-description/

Here’s an article you can also check for reference:

In this case, you should clear your website cache and request the indexing of your pages by passing it through the URL Inspection Tool and request it there: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/ask-google-to-recrawl.

We hope that helps and we are here should you have any follow-up questions.

    Thank you.
