Which sitemap link should i add on GSC for Best Practices

    Hi, I just launched a new website, and I am confused with the sitemap URLs.

    I found that rank math has 3 different links for one sitemap.

    1. domain.com/wp-sitemap.xml
    2. domain.com/sitemap_index.xml
    3. domain.com/sitemap.xml

    All these sitemap URLs redirect me to one sitemap.
    I know any one URL will work with the search engines, but what is the recommended URL?

    I am asking this because I saw that rank math has a sitemap link in the robots.txt file.

    Which sitemap URL should I add to my search engine console?

    Hello,

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math support today.

    You can simply just submit the primary sitemap file sitemap_index.xml as they are just redirecting to the same file. The Google Search Console should be able to scan the sub-sitemap under the primary sitemap.

    Thanks for your reply. Using the primary sitemap file sitemap_index.xml will not cause a duplicate sitemap issue?

    Because robot.txt has wp-sitemap.xml sitemap link.

    Will this cause any duplicate sitemap issue?
    wp-sitemap.xml and sitemap_index.xml

    Hello,

    Thanks for getting back to us.

    Our plugin only generates a main sitemap and it’s located here: https://yourdomain.com/sitemap_index.xml

    All the others you might have on your website are not coming from Rank Math.

    As for your robots.txt file, currently, it doesn’t have any sitemap entry on it, so we recommend that you use the default file and add the main sitemap generated from Rank Math both on GSC and in your robots.txt file.
