What does marking a post as Pillar Content actually do? Does it add tags to the HTML?

It doesn’t tell us technically what marking a post as Pillar does.Many Thanks

When you mark a post as a Pillar Post, the link suggestions will show the Pillar Post in other posts for the same category.
You can click on the link icon in the link suggestions to link to your pillar post or copy the link and paste it in your content:
