I want to change permalink of ALL my URLs. Basically instead of URL being mysite.com/url, it will be mysite.com/category/url.

So how do I do it (for all my URLs) and auto-redirect it?

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you’re facing. To change the permalink structure for all your URLs in WordPress and set up auto-redirection using Rank Math, you can follow these steps:

    Step 1: Change Permalink Structure

    1. Go to WordPress Dashboard: Log in to your WordPress admin area.
    2. Navigate to Settings: Click on Settings > Permalinks.
    3. Select Custom Structure: In the Permalink Settings, select the Custom Structure option and enter your desired structure. For example, you can use /category/%postname%/ to achieve mysite.com/category/url.
    4. Save Changes: Click on the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.

Step 2: Set Up Auto-Redirects with Rank Math

    1. Enable Auto Redirects: Rank Math automatically handles redirects when you change permalinks. Ensure that the Auto Post Redirect feature is enabled in Rank Math settings.
    2. Check Redirects: You can also manually set up redirects for any specific URLs if needed by going to Rank Math > Redirections in your WordPress dashboard.
    3. Create Redirects: Here, you can add new redirects from old URLs to new ones if they do not automatically redirect.

    So I tried doing this.

First I enabled the Auto-Post Redirect option in Rankmath, and then I went to the Permalinks section in my WordPress website Settings and changed the Slug to yoursite.com/category/postname.

However what I noticed is that the Urls of all my posts were successfully changed from yoursite.com/postname to yoursite.com/category/postname. But the auto redirections were not created.

However, before that I tried changing the URL of a single post from the editor itself and the auto-redirection was created. But this thing of changing the permalinks – the redirections are not getting created.

    Please help.

    Hello,

Please note that the Auto Post redirect in Rank Math only applies to the slugs of your posts/pages.

If you change the permalink, then the redirection should be handled by WordPress.

In this case that WordPress didn’t create the redirection from your old permalink to the new automatically, then you may need to create the redirection for those posts.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Is there any way to find out if WordPress has created that Redirection automatically?

    Hello,

You can simply visit your old URLs and check if they are getting redirected to the new URLs or not. Alternatively, you can also use a tool like https://httpstatus.io/ to check your old URLs.

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.
