Validating for rich pins: missing OpenGraph meta tags

    Hey there,

I’m having problems to apply for Pinterest rich pins. While validating my site Pinterest finds a the correct recipe schema data from the plugin WP Recipe Maker and article schema data added by Rank Math. According to Pinterest the article schema data however has two missing field: “Author” and “Published Date”

I then checked the schema data with Googles structured data test tool and noticed, that both fields are present in the ld+json data but missing in OpenGraph meta tags. I assume that pinterest is looking for the og tags and thats why it shows the error if I try to validate my site.

So why are both fields missing in og meta data? Any help is appreciated.

    Cheers

  • Update: I created a snippet for my functions.php file to add the “article:published_date” tag manually for all posts. Now Pinterest recognizes the field properly.

Even if this solution works for now, the question still remains, why RankMath does not insert the tag itself.

The issue with the author field remains: Why does Pinterest not recognize this, although “article: author” is present?

Update: Doing a bit of research I discovered from this thread, that you have to fill out the Facebook Page URL / Facebook Authorship fields in Social-Meta settings for the missing article:author field to shop up.

Sadly Pinterest still doesn’t recognize the field and claims that “Authors” is still missing. Since its missing too, I’ve tried to find a solution for adding the “article:published_time” tag, but to no avail.

    I’m at a loss here 🙁

Update: I’ve got it working. Disabled the ouput of your “article:author” meta tag and used my own.

    <meta property="article:author" content="My Name">

It seems Facebook and Pinterest expecting different data, because without an URL Pinterest recognizes the field. Since I dont really care about FB I’ll stick with that for now.

Unfortunately, the validation still does not work. An empty error message “Missing fields:” is displayed and a red exclamation mark can be seen for “Rich Pins enabled”. Everything else is green now.

Any idea how I can fix that?

    Hello,

You seem to have resolved this issue.

Rank math does add the published date and author meta from your page published data and author from your facebook data in Rank math > Titles & Meta > Social Meta

Do you still want us to look into this?

    Looking forward helping you.
