URLs indexed with woocommerce

    Rank Math free

    Hello,
I have a WooCommerce site with a product page that includes filters: website.com/product.
Many pages are being indexed, such as website.com/product/?filter=blue…

Do I need to configure anything specific?
Should I add a canonical tag, or is it automatically handled by Rank Math? I don’t see it on the pages after inspecting the source code.
    Thank you!

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the indexing of your WooCommerce product pages. Rank Math does automatically add canonical URLs to most of your pages, including product pages. However, in cases where you have filters or parameters in your URLs (like ?filter=blue), it’s important to ensure that the canonical tag is set correctly to point to the main product page without the filter.

To manually set a canonical URL for your product page, you can follow these steps:

    1. Go to the product page you want to edit.
    2. Scroll down to the Rank Math SEO Meta box.
    3. Navigate to Advanced → Canonical URL.
    4. Enter the canonical URL (e.g., `https://rankmath.com/kb/woocommerce-duplicate-content-issues/) that you want search engines to consider as the primary version of the page.
    5. Don’t forget to update the product page once you’re done.

Here’s a visual guide on how to set the canonical URL:

If you prefer, you can also set noindex tags for filtered pages to prevent them from being indexed. This can be done by navigating to Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta and adjusting the settings for product archives or specific categories.

If you still don’t see the canonical tag after making these changes, please inspect the source code again after updating the product page.

Thank you for raising this concern! If you have any further questions or need assistance, feel free to reply to this ticket, and a human agent from our support team will assist you further.

    Hello,

Thank you so much for getting in touch.

Yes, by default, Rank Math should set the canonical to the main page, not the URL for the filter path.

You can check that by accessing the page source of the page like so:

If you want, we can check the current setup of your filter pages, just share the URL here.

    Looking forward to helping you.
