URL redirection of images

  • Hello,

I apologize for the issue you are facing with image URL redirections. From the screenshots you provided, it seems that Rank Math is detecting Attachment Page URLs for images and adding a “2” to the redirect. This behavior occurs because WordPress creates separate media attachment pages for each individual file uploaded to the Media Library.

The reason for double URLs is that when you upload an image to a post, WordPress generates separate URLs for the image itself and the attachment page. If these attachment pages are not redirected, it can negatively impact your SEO by potentially causing duplicate content issues and increasing bounce rates.

To address this issue and ensure that these Attachment Page URLs are not indexed, you should consider redirecting them to the original post or page where the image was attached. By enabling the “Redirect Attachments” option in Rank Math, you can redirect these Attachment Page URLs to the media URLs or the parent posts/pages they belong to.

If you are seeing a “2” added to the redirect, it might be due to a specific configuration or setting in Rank Math. To further investigate and resolve this issue, I recommend checking your Rank Math settings related to attachment redirection and ensuring that they are correctly configured.

If you need further assistance or have any other questions, please feel free to reply here, and our support team will be more than happy to help.

Thank you for reaching out with your concern.

Rank Math has generated a lot of redirects on Page attachments automatilly.

This could be a trouble from plugin Optimole?

    Hello,

    Thank you for contacting support.

If these redirections are added automatically by the plugin this would only happen when the permalink of a particular page is changed and in this case it seems that you tried to add a page with the same permalink of another that already exists.

That is why the permalink is adding the number 2 which is done automatically by WordPress when there is already that same permalink on the website.

It’s very important that before you add any images on the website you are sure they are not going to conflict with pages already on the website and won’t create the same permalink structure as pages that already exist.

You can prevent these redirections from being created by disabling the option to automatically redirect pages when the permalink changes by going to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math SEO > General Settings > Redirections.

However, it would be best to find out where those images with the same permalink are coming from first, before doing this.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

I have many duplicate images generated by Optimole and am waiting for their response.

In the meantime, will I delete all these redirects? I removed the Popular Post plugin that generated images.

The redirects were created automatically when I changed the alt attributes of the images.

    Hello,

While waiting for Optimole’s response, you can safely delete the redirects. Removing the Popular Post plugin might have triggered the redirections. As for changing alt attributes causing redirects, it’s unlikely since our plugin will only do that if a post’s or page’s permalink is modified (if this feature is turned on) as we have explained previously.

    Looking forward to helping you.

well, then I have something that triggers the redirects, but I don’t know what it could be. Suggestions?

    Hello,

Only the Auto Post Redirect feature can create the redirects automatically in the Redirections module of our plugin. It only works when you change the slug of a page. You must have updated the slug when changing the ALT text of the images. There is no other feature in our plugin that will automatically create the redirects.

Please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
