URL and Breadcrumbs

I do have another question about breadcrumbs and URL. My last ticket was closed so I had to start a new one. When I add the other options for my main category it makes my URL really long so instead of www. sitename/recipe/recipename.com its now www. sitename/category/subcategory/subcategory/recipename.com. Is there a way to have a shorter URL but still have the longer breadcrumb thread listed on the top of the page? I don’t want obnoxiously long URLs. Thanks

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

The breadcrumbs follow the same structure as your website URL, so if you shorten the URL by removing the subcategories from it the breadcrumbs will also have those subcategories removed.

This is the intended behavior as it’s always best to have the same structure for both of these functionalities.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

Hi thanks I was out of town, just now seeing this.
The goal is to have breadcrumbs but also shorter urls are a dilemma I think. I know shorter URLS rank higher, but breadcrumbs are nice to have for readers to stay longer.

    Hello,

As explained by my colleague, Rank Math’s breadcrumbs follow the current URL structure of the page. Changing the URL structure while the breadcrumbs format is different might confuse search engines about the structure of your website content.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
