Good Day!
Today, we decided to modify our htaccess file using your plugin by following these instructions.
Unfortunately, after modifying our htaccess file, our website crashed. That is, we got a “403 Forbidden” error when trying to access our website.
To fix our issue, we restored our website using the htaccess backup file created by Rank Math. Specifically, we deleted the .htaccess file contained in our public folder and renamed Rank Math’s htaccess file (labeled, “.htaccess-backup-XXXXX”) to “.htaccess”
Upon further investigation, we confirmed with SiteGround (our host) that the issue was caused because we’re using their plugin, SG Security, which restricts access to unknown or potentially malicious files. SG Security identified your htaccess backup file (labeled “.htaccess-backup-XXXXX”) as an unknown or potentially malicious file.
Bottom line, the htaccess modification feature of your plugin conflicts with websites hosted by SiteGround that are also using the plugin, SG Security.
Would be great if you guys can try to replicate our issue, then update your knowledgebase to reflect the above and fix.
In fact, your knowledgebase should be updated to provide instructions on what to do if a website crashes after modifying the htaccess file using your htaccess modification feature.
WE CONSIDER THIS VERY IMPORTANT — AND URGENT!
Thank you.
