Updating Failed, Could not update meta values of footnotes in database

    Hi, I’ve been facing this recurring issue with RankMath plugin on my wordpress website recently, it would be much appreciated if you could assist.

    I could not save edited changes on any webpage when I have RankMath plugin activated (with other plugins deactivated) due to 2 errors:

    1. it just won’t save (please see the screencast)
    2. I got the error message: Updating failed. Could not update the meta value of footnotes in database.

    Methods I have tried but did not work:
    1. Deactivate, uninstall and reinstall Rank Math, (it worked for a while but I still got rest_no_route error 404 message when I check on /wp-json/rankmath/v1/UpdateMeta/)
    2. Whitelist Rankmath in Wordfence Allowlist

    I checked for JavaScript Errors, and this is the error message I got:
    /wp-json/wp/v2/pages/10517?_locale=user:1 Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error)

    For the web.mt.com.tw website, the issue is with your Wordfence blocking Rank Math’s update route as you can see from the screenshot below:

    In this case, please contact the support folks from Wordfence to get this sorted out, or you may follow this guide.

    As for your main website, please share your website’s FTP login here so we can debug this issue further.

    thanks for pointing that out, I’ve whitelisted Rank Math for the web.mt.com.tw website (by following the guide), but unfortunately the issue persists.

    As for my main site, I’ll check with our MIS engineer and provide necessary information asap, thank you.

    We can still see your website http://www.mt.com.tw is blocking our API route, so we have gone ahead and whitelisted the route in WordFence. Please check from your end if the issue persists.

    it turned out the issue was not only caused by the API route block, but also caused by duplicate meta key. Fortunately the issue has been resolved for now. Thank you.
