Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
Upon checking your sub-category pages I noticed that they are actually leading to a 404 page and not a redirection without a slash.
I have gone ahead and disabled all the WooCommerce settings to remove the category base which could be the possible reason causing the issue but even after disabling the WC module, the issue was still present.
Therefore, this issue seems that it is an indication that the translation of slugs on your website might not be properly set up from your translation plugin.
Please double-check that all your settings are correct and that you are translating the slugs correctly from WPML before trying to remove the category bases in Rank Math settings.
If you have any other questions or require any further assistance donβt hesitate to get in touch.
Thank you.
Hi Brian,
I am sorry but maybe there is a misunderstanding.
I have not translated the website yet. I have installed the WPML plugin for future use.
The main categories are showed correctly in the main language.
The subcategories (same language) are being redirected to a wrong url. You can see the hand icon showing you the ‘i/’ missing for some reason. https://snipboard.io/gUnWmE.jpg
As you have already checked there is not any subcategory redirection on the list.
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math again.
Upon checking your issue I have tried to troubleshoot the site using the health check plugin but it was not possible. Would you please create a staging site environment to which we can do some troubleshooting so that we can assess this issue?
We really look forward to helping you.
Thank you.
Hi Brian,
thank you for checking.
Yes, you also disabled woocommerce on Rankmath, and all the links to the products disappeared.
As the ‘Remove base’ and ‘Remove category base’ are activated, if you disable Woocommerce, all the links are broken.
At the moment only 2 links are broken, the ones that go to the subcategories:
/taralli-tarallini-artigianali/taralli-linea-premium/
/crostini/crostini-linea-premium/
All the others seem to work correctly.
I have created a new copy of the website and updated the link inside the box.
I have edited some fields on permalink page and now there is not any redirections to subcategories, but unfortunately the ‘CATEGORY’ disappear from the url.
Now it is like this.
http://www.website.com/titleproduct
but it should be like this http://www.website.com/category/titleproduct as it was before.
The Rankmath settings seems to be ok.
Remove base β> ON
Remove category base β> ON
Remove parent slugs β> OFF
Can you pleas check it? I think there is a bug.
Why I am not receiving any assistance?
Hello,
Thanks for getting back. Sorry for the unwanted delay and any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
While trying to check for a plugin conflict the staging site threw a fatal error and the WP dashboard is no longer accessible. Please share the FTP access details so we can fix the error and assist you further.
We really look forward to helping you.
Hello,
I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?
Thank you.
Hi,
I have noticed it.
I cannot share the FTP access because the hosting ask me to add your IP as well.
I have sent you the recovery link.
Hello,
Thanks for getting back. Sorry for the delay and any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
I wasn’t able to log in using the link that you have shared. It shows Recovery Mode not Initialized
page:
Please check and let us know when it is fixed. You can also use FTP to disable WPML and its add-on plugins from the wp-content/plugins
by renaming the plugins.
We really look forward to helping you.
I have logged in the website and disabled WPML.
I also restored the website from the recovery mode.
Now, it’s quite URGENT.
Remember this is a staging site. After your fixings, you should replicate them to the website on the main domain.
Hello,
Thank you for getting back to us.
Just checked your URLs and the reason why the category is removed is that you have set the remove base category to ON. This is usually the default way of redirecting links with that settings.
Regarding the first issue, I was not able to replicate it on the staging site. The URL in this case seems to be having the "/"
between the category and slug.
Please do let us know if you are able to replicate the same. If not do share with us the link and we will gladly check it out.
We are looking forward to helping you.
Hi Brian,
I am really sorry to receive this type of assistance.
Remove category base β> ON
MEANS This
Remove prefix from category URL.
default: /product-category/accessories/action-figures/ – changed: /accessories/action-figures/
IT REMOVES PRODUCT-CATEGORY NOT THE CATEGORY FROM THE URL
Now the staging site is not working anymore after your editings.
I have edited the sensitive data with a new website installation
Hello,
Thank you for getting back to us and apologies if that was not clear.
The issue with the redirection without the slash was not on your staging site. Unlike your main site, this is still persistent and we can only troubleshoot it on a similar interface on the staging site.
When I accessed your staging site it did not match your main site. Therefore we need an exact match of your main site, and to do so you can use the WP staging plugin to create it.
On further testing, this link using different tools shows that it is associated with a 503 redirect.
See screenshot:
The 503 error occurs when your web server is unable to get a proper response from a PHP script. This could be from a plugin as well. If this is not resolved via conflict check, then you may also try to contact your host provider regarding this issue as well.
Hope this helps. We are looking forward to providing more assistance to you.
Thank you.
Hi Brian,
yes. The main website is now working correctly after I have edited the permalink settings. Thank you!
