If you are referring to this sitemap_index.xml, this should not worry you since it’s the default fie structure for Rank math sitemap and I’d recommend that you don’t change it.

Hiya Michael, Thanks for this. I know it’s the default but every site checker highlights this is the one url as incorrect as it is not good seo practice. I wondered if there are plans to change this to keep it in line with good seo practice please?

Since sitemap is not intended to be indexed, just added to the Search Console, right now there are no plans to change it. Also, it is quite a common naming convention and the same is used by Yoast. I do not believe that the name used for the sitemap file will have an effect on your SEO.
Anyway, you can also create a redirection rule via the Rank Math redirections module to redirect to sitemap.xml if you would prefer to have it this way.
