Hello,
We apologize for the issue you are facing with the categories and tags appearing as "undefined" in the description after your WordPress update. This can sometimes happen due to conflicts with themes or plugins, or it may be related to how the Rank Math settings are configured.
To troubleshoot this issue, we recommend checking the following:
- Theme Compatibility: Ensure that your theme is compatible with the latest version of WordPress and Rank Math.
- Plugin Conflicts: Deactivate other plugins temporarily to see if there is a conflict causing this issue.
- Rank Math Settings: Review your Rank Math settings to ensure that everything is configured correctly, especially in the General Settings and the Image SEO module.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further. Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention!
This is an automated reply from Rank Math Support Bot. Your ticket has been assigned to a human agent and we will get back to you shortly.
Hello,
Please make sure you’ve added a description on the category description field because when you use the
%term_description%
variable it fetches the data from there. If the field is blank, it will show undefined.
Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.
Thank you.
It’s difficult to understand that the problem is with your plugin.
I have two websites with the same theme and the latest update and on the same server.
The difference is that one has the latest version of WordPress and the other doesn’t.
The problem is that WordPress has been updated to the latest version and caused a problem with the plugin. I showed the error in the image and you simply ignored me.
the error shows in the description of tags and categories and this is a problem with the plugin that is causing problems in the latest version of wordpress updated this week.
Hello,
When you visit the live term/category page on the frontend, do you see the same “undefined” text on the meta description?
We tested this on our local setup but we don’t see any issues with it: https://i.rankmath.com/v/6bLayt
We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/
You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.
The problem is in %term_description%
I tested with %sitedescr% it generated automatically in the wordpress categories.
Before the last wordpress update it was working.
I have 2 sites that have the same host, same plugin, same theme, everything the same.
the difference is that I updated one to the latest version of wordpress and now it is giving the problem in rank math
see here and my 2 websites showing both versions
Hello,
That would indicate that the following is returning
undefined
and not an empty value on your website:$wp_query->queried_object->description;
We tested the plugin with the latest version of WordPress and this cannot be replicated so this must be caused by something on your theme or another plugin.
If you would like us to investigate the matter please provide the WP credentials and the team will do the needful.
Thank you.
I’ll wait for the next update since I know they won’t resolve it at the moment.
There’s no point in me explaining and showing that the problem is in rank math.
Even though I have been using it for 5 years with experience, I know that the problem is with the plugin.
Hello,
The problem is in a combination of settings, themes, and plugins you have installed on the website that is causing this.
The latest WordPress with the default theme and Rank Math installed doesn’t have that issue, so it’s another variable that is causing this.
We are not saying this is something that shouldn’t be fixed in our plugin, but for us to debug exactly what is causing this it’s only possible to do it on the website where it’s happening.
Thank you.
I’ve already deactivated themes, I’ve deactivated other plugins and the error continues.
As I explained, the problem is in your plugin
Hello,
The bottom line is that we cannot fix an issue that we cannot replicate. We understand if you don’t want to give us access to the live website but a staging website where you are experiencing the same issue would suffice.
If you don’t want to proceed this further we understand the situation even though we would like to get to the bottom of this.
Thank you.
