Hi
In editing the snippet option for Title we choose as %title% or we manually type the title under every Post in WordPress. But in the actual Google search engine its always shown as %titl% %sep% %sitename% in this format. How does this happen when in the edit snippet section the chosen format is different
Note :- Under Titles and Meta section < Posts < Single Post Title its by default %title%

βThanks for getting in touch with us.

β1. First of all, I am assuming that you have already changed the SEO Meta Title and Meta Description with the help of Rank Math:
Add a Meta Description in Classic Editor:Add title and description in Gutenberg:
β
β2. Then, ensure that this is the setting in the Schema tab if Rich Snippets are enabled on your website:
β
β
βTo reiterate, the Schema title must show %seo_title% and the description should show %seo_description% – this will ensure your SEO title and SEO Description that you set up via Rank Math can also be used for your schema details:
β
β3. The next step is to check if your title/description is properly set up in the page source:
You can use this tool for the same as well: https://www.heymeta.com/
4. If it matches your settings, then you must check if Google has seen the changes already or not.
β
For that, please check when the Google cache was updated for that page:
a.
b.
If the cache date is from before adding the new meta description, then you just have to wait for Google to re-crawl and re-index the page with the new info. If the date is after you made the changes,
β
βDo note that if everything’s fine and Google still decides to show a different meta title/description for your search keyword, there is nothing you can do as Google sometimes ignores the custom meta info altogether and show something from the page’s content that matches the search intent better. The best you can do is optimize your meta tags to try and match the intent of the search/keyword.
You can read more about it here

This section sheds light on that:
Why the search result title might differ from the page's <title> tag
Hope that helps. If you have any further question(s), please let us know. Thank you.
Hi Michael
Thanks for the revert
All the steps till step 4 are in line but still Google is trying to show a different title.
But here Google is not trying to add anything from the content but its adding the sitename after every posttitle and this is uniform for all the posts
Also, under settings > SEO Titles and Meta > Global Meta >Separator Character the preview shown reads as follows “Post Title | Site Name”.
Refer https://paste.pics/8ORMJ
This is the preview which is being shown in Google Search Engine. But in the edit snippet I dont add the site name post the title name then how is the site name automatically added aster the Post title ?
So I am guessing that some tweak in some setting is required in Rank Math setting itself
That’s completely normal for Google to include your brand name in the title’s automatically – even if you deliberately leave them out from your titles.
β
βHere’s an article mentioning that as well.
β
βhttps://seo-gold.com/marcus-lemonis-website-seo-review/google-automatically-adds-brand-name-to-titles/βAnd a link to Google’s forums with replies from Experts saying that it is like that on purpose:

β
If you wish to know Google’s guidelines on writing Good titles, here are the guidelines straight from the horse’s mouth:
βhttps://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35624?hl=en
β
βWith that said, it largely depends on keyword intent too. For some keyword searches, your custom title might appear while for others – Google might append your brand name to the title and there is nothing you can do to force them to do otherwise. That is regardless of what SEO plugin you use.

βHope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else. Thanks for the reply Todd
In cases where Google adds the title by itself, do we need to shorten the %posttitle% such that the total title length (including site name) remains within 60 characters which is visible on google search engine ?
Also, whether Google adds the title by itself or not could you please let me know how does the Rank Math review (Refer https://paste.pics/8ORMJ) show the posttitle in the following format (%posttitle% %sep% %sitename%) when as per edit snippet settings only %title% is added – Had asked this in the previous query
Would appreciate if you could help me with the above 2 queries as well. Thanks Todd
Hi,
You want to keep your titles within the 60 character limit.
I am not sure where you got that
%posttitle%
variable but it is not correct. The correct one is
%title%
and it is working just as intended:
You can use the same setup on your website.
Hi Todd,
%posttitle% was a typo instead on %typo%, but were you able to check the screenshot link I had shared (https://paste.pics/8ORMJ)
In this screenshot you can see the preview below the Separator Character option which reads as “Post Title | Dentall Info” here Dentall Info is the %sitename%
So my question is how do we get a preview as %title% %sep% %sitename% (Post Title | Dentall Info) when the Single Post Title is selected as %title% within Rank Math
I have understood the point which you mentioned earlier that Google adds the site name in the end in some cases. But how come the site name is added in the end in Rank Math preview when the same is not chosen within the Rank Math Settings
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.
The screenshot like the global settings page. Could you please check if the site name is also appended when editing the single posts?
Could you please share a screenshot as well?
Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

Hi
As required, the screenshot of the Posts setting page where the %title% is not included is provided below
Hi,
I do not see any issue in that screenshot:
The sitename is not added to your post. Am I missing something obvious here?
Hi
You are right. Only the title name and not the sitename is visible here but if you check the preview under Separtor Character here (https://paste.pics/8ORMJ), the sitename is also added. Why is that so ?
Hope this is not the reason for the sitename being added at the end of all the posts
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.
This is up to Google determine how the title will be displayed as we mentioned earlier. It is however advisable to ensure that your title is below 60 characters so that it can be displayed in the way the SEO title has been set.
Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
