The staging site URLs create conflicts with the live site

I had similar problems with the staging site, but I was using another tool: Softcolous. This staging program generated incorrect sitemaps, as they had the URLs of the staging site and were noindex.

Now I use the Wp-Staging plugin and have a redirect from the live wp-admin to the staging one. I deleted the staging site, but the redirect persists. Unfortunately it also happens with incognito browsing.

Clearing the plugin and server cache doesn’t help.

I have frequent problems with strange redirects and they only happen with your plugin enabled.

At the moment I cannot create a staging site for you, as the hosting has to do other work on the site.

Furthermore, I had partially solved the ranking problems by not having any active staging site. By creating one in the last month, I lost all the keywords, pages and images completely removed from the SERP. Probably due to the conflict between live site and staging. The staging site was noindex.

  • Hello,

I apologize for the issues you are facing with the staging site URLs conflicting with the live site and the persistent redirect from the live wp-admin to the staging one. It seems like you are experiencing unwanted redirects and ranking problems after creating a staging site using the Rank Math plugin.

Based on the information provided, it appears that the staging site setup and the use of different staging tools have caused conflicts and issues with your live site’s SEO and rankings. To address these concerns, here are some steps you can take:

    1. Disable Rank Math on Staging Site: If you are not actively using the staging site, consider disabling Rank Math on the staging site to prevent any conflicts with the live site.

    2. Check for Redirects: Verify if there are any residual redirects or configurations causing the redirection from live wp-admin to the staging site. You may need to review your server settings or any other plugins that could be causing this behavior.

    3. Review Sitemap Configuration: Ensure that your sitemap settings are correctly configured to include only the URLs from your live site. Incorrect sitemap configurations can lead to indexing issues and affect your SEO.

    4. Troubleshooting Plugin Conflicts: As mentioned in our knowledge base article, conflicts between plugins can cause unexpected behavior. You may need to perform a plugin conflict check to identify any conflicting plugins causing the redirects.

    5. Recovery of Lost Keywords and Pages: If you have lost keywords, pages, or images from the SERP due to the staging site conflict, you may need to reindex your content and resubmit your sitemap to search engines.

Unfortunately, without direct access to your staging site or server, we recommend reaching out to your hosting provider or web developer to assist in resolving the persistent redirect issue and any remaining conflicts.

If you continue to face issues or need further assistance, please provide more details or screenshots related to the problem, and our support team will be ready to assist you further.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention, and we appreciate your patience as we work towards resolving these issues for you.

    Closing spiel:
We are here to help you with any further questions or concerns you may have. Feel free to reach out if you need more assistance.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math support.

Your staging site should not affect your live site unless you push the staging changes to the live site.

Just to understand the issue you reported correctly, you set a redirect from the Rank Math settings on your staging site and when you deleted the staging site, the redirection is still happening? Let us know if we understood this correctly. This would mostly depend on how WP Staging stores its staging data and how it deletes the data when a staging site is deleted. But generally, your staging data should not spill over to the main site.

Please share the redirect URL in question with us, so we can review it. Also please speak with the WP Staging team and let us know what they think the issue could be.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you.

I have no redirects to the staging page.

I’ve had the problem with redirects and site staging for more than a year, but now the noindex has appeared. This would explain why I often had results outside the SERP. I had asked several times on this forum for support with my problems, but to no avail.

I also have a redirect that I can’t get rid of as you can see in the image. It will be a 301 redirect to the homepage, but the message still persists. I have received these error messages in the past.

    Hello,

Please share the URL/s you are referring to with the redirect issue so we can check and advise accordingly.

The noindex notice is due to the settings you have set to discourage the search engines from indexing your site

    discourage

Also, none of the redirects you have shared from your screenshot are set to your homepage.

    Looking forward to helping you.

For once the hosting was useful: The problem was with an htaccess file that was causing problems.

Why do I often have multiple htaccess files? Come to think of it, it was their elimination that solved my indexing problems. I only kept one. But I don’t understand why they generate doubles on their own.

    Hello,

Yes, you should only keep one .htaccess file on your website.

However, it is impossible to have two .htaccess as you can’t have two or more files with the same name.

Also, Rank Math doesn’t generate a second .htaccess. This is something you need to discuss with your hosting provider.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Htaccess was more with different names. Maybe some was still active. i’ve talked with hosting on this.

    Hello,

    Thanks for clarifying.

If you encounter any further issues, feel free to reach out. We’re here to assist you.
