The correct og: image is not showing on social

    Hello,

I want to report that the correct og: image is not showing on social. I’ll use this post as an example: https://bulkcomments.net/wordpress-commenting-systems/

    – I uploaded the image inside the post editor, directly inside the RankMath social settings section/tab where it’s indicated to show for Facebook & Twitter. (no featured image was uploaded)

    – But on Facebook and Twitter, what it’s doing is picking up that first image of a comment form that shows after the quiz on the post.

    – I then inspected the source code of the post and noticed that it’s showing two sets of og: image tags (one with the right image and one with the wrong image), so I guess there must be some type of conflict.

I read your troubleshooting guide about installing that health check plugin. But after reading the complaints with it, them not responding to concerns, and noticing that the plugin wasn’t even compatible with the latest version of WordPress, I decided to forgo fully going through with it and uninstalled it.

So there it is, hopefully we can get to the bottom of why the correct og: image is not showing.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math.

I checked on my local installation, the Health check plugin is working fine.

However, if you wish, you can create a staging site and perform the troubleshooting there so your live site is not affected.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Looks like it’s some type of sporadic conflict with the EWWW plugin:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer/

Sometimes when I disabled it, the issue was fixed and my thumbnail showed correctly. But then on subsequent tests, it made no difference whether it was off or on. So looks like the culprit is some time of sporadic conflict with that plugin.

    Hello,

I can check that there are two sets of meta tags being added to your posts. The first one is coming from some other plugin/theme that is adding the following image as the og:image: https://bulkcomments.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/WordPress-Native-Comments.jpg

The other one is coming from Rank Math that is adding this image as the og:image: https://bulkcomments.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/wordpress-commenting-systems-featured.jpg

Since the other plugin’s meta tags are above our meta tags, Facebook is picking up og:image added by them.

It doesn’t seem like a conflict with EWWW Optimizer. We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

We really look forward to helping you.

Well is there any other way that we can troubleshoot (or any other info that I can supply you with)? I would have to get permission to give access to the admin panel.

    Hello,

You can create a staging website and replicate the issue there and share its logins so that we can perform the troubleshooting there and your live website doesn’t get affected by the troubleshooting.

You may follow this article to create the staging website: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-create-staging-environment-for-a-wordpress-site/

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello, any update on this?

    Hello,

Thank you for your patience as we look into social media previews not displaying the correct image on your website.

I checked your post “https://bulkcomments.net/wordpress-commenting-systems/” and the Forminator quiz has its own separate meta keys which are being picked up by social media sites even though your main page already has meta keys.

Please contact Forminator for help disabling the meta key for the Forminator quiz thumbnail.

Hope that helps. If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Well looks like it’s showing the same amount of meta even on the pages without a quiz, so it has to be something else.

To be clear, I have checked several posts and pages and it’s the same amount of og:image instances, regardless of a quiz.

    Hello,

I was able to figure out that the second set of the meta tags is being added by the Blog2Social: Social Media Auto Post & Scheduler plugin. You can disable the meta tags by disabling the option shown in the screenshot below from the Blog2Social: Social Media Auto Post & Scheduler plugin’s settings:

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any other assistance.

    Thanks.

I have disabled those settings. Now I just if it will affect the display of posts from that plugin?

    Hello,

No, it will not affect the posts, disabling those options will only prevent that plugin from adding the meta tags to the page source.

    Hope that helps.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

    Cool thanks!
