  • Hello,

Thanks for contacting us. Sorry for the delay and any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Please make sure that you have enabled the Include in Sitemap option from WP Dashboard > Rank Math > Sitemap Settings > Tags

Categories and tags both have different purposes and you can use both tags and categories on your posts and in your sitemap.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any further assistance.

    Hi,

Yes, I have enabled Tags in the settings.

However when I click on the sitemap URL it says the page is not found.

I’ve also check in https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/validate-xml-sitemap.html which says the sitemap is not valid and gives the following error:

    Incorrect http header content-type: “text/html; charset=UTF-8” (expected: “application/xml”)

    Hello,

Can you please follow these steps?

    1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp

    2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

If the issue persists, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I have checked your website. You seem to have marked the tags as noindex, Rank Math only includes the tags that are set to index in the sitemap.
    index

Please set the tags to index and flush the sitemap cache:

I hope this helps. Looking forward to helping you.

That fixed it. Thank you so much.

    Hello,

    Glad that helped.

Please feel free to reach out to us again in case you need any other assistance.

    We are here to help.

    Thank you.

Just one other question. Does Rankmath automatically submit my sitemap or do I have to do it manually?

    Hello,

    Thanks for your reply.

Rank Math automatically submits the sitemaps if you’re using the Google Search Console integration. If not, then you have to manually submit only the main sitemap (your-domain.com/sitemap_index.xml) and the rest of the sitemaps would be automatically detected by Google Search Console.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

Thank you. I will set up Google search console now.

Would it be advisable to exclude images from the sitemap if they don’t have Alt text?

When I add the Alt text and then turn on “include images” for sitemap what do I have to do then to have the sitemap resubmitted (or is that done automatically if I make a change to the sitemap and save)?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

    Thanks for your reply.

You can enable the Add Missing ALT Attribute to automatically add the ALT texts to the images that are stored on your website. Please refer to this tutorial for more details: https://rankmath.com/kb/image-seo/#3-1-add-missing-alt-attributes

You do not need to re-submit the sitemap each time you update anything on your website. Once the sitemap is submitted, the changes are automatically read by the bots whenever they crawl your website.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

Thank you for the link, however it appears that I don’t have an “images” dropdown tab in “general settings”?

It’s okay. I found it. I had the Image SEO module turned off in the dashboard.
