I have been able to replicate the issue. For now I left the field empty, for the data to be inherited from the site title and description settings, you can check.

Hello,
We are sorry but that field only accepts static text or grabs the values from your SEO titles. There is no option to use custom variables in there since that is a homepage and variables are mostly used on individual posts/pages where the values can change. But for the homepage, values mostly remain static.
You can use a static one or let it grab the title/description from the homepage’s SEO tags.
With that said, we have noted this down for improvement.
We will see what we can do about that during a future release of the plugin.
