Social media preview not working

Hi, I switched to rankmath for a few months ago and love it. One issue I’m currently seeing is that when I share URLs on social to the social preview function is not working (no image or meta data).

When I try the facebook url debugger, the error message is: Curl error: 61 (BAD_CONTENT_ENCODING)

I’ve tried disabling the GZip compression and clearing the cache, but this has not worked. Any ideas on how to resolve?

    Cheers,
    Ed

  • Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

If you’re OK to check more than 1 site, I actually have 3 sites that all have a similar issue w RankMath and the social preview function not working. Access details for all 3 sites attached.

    Cheers,
    Ed

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

I have been able to check your sites and I have attached screencasts in the sensitive section, please check.
site 1: It seems a number of your posts had been crawled but resulted to errors. I cleared the cache and had your URLs scraped/debugged again and the preview shows fine.

site 2 & 3: The preview show s just fine if the cache is cleared on your site.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

Thanks for this. Is there any rule as to how often I’ll need to clear the cache to ensure the social preview feature continues to work?

For site 3 when I put a site URL into facebook it’s still not pulling through the image or metadata, despite your screencast showing no errors in the FB testing tool. I’ve tried clearing the cache, but still can’t get it to work.

Hi – I’m picking this up from my husband as he’s had enough. My sites (site 1 Flashpacking Family and site 2 UKFamilyTravel) do not seem to be working. This feature is critical for me as I need to share my posts on facebook. It doesn’t afect my husband’s site so much so he’s not bothered. I hope you can find a way to fix this. What do you suggest trying next? thanks

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

I have checked a number of your URLs again and they all seem fine. Have you tried this from a different device or browser.? Could you please share a screencast and some of the affected URLs so we can look into it.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

How do I share a screencast? Can I grab a screenshot and send it? The urls may look fine but have you copied the urls into a facebook post and does the image preview show? All I get (and all other people get because other people are trying to share my posts) is our website name – no image and no post title..

    Hello,

You can use Loom for Chrome extension to record a screencast. Also, please confirm that Facebook is not showing the Cached page content. You can check and clear the cache by clicking on the Scrape Again button in Facebook Share Debugger: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/

    I hope that helps.

I’ve tried a few urls and some are working (if I scrape them) – but this one isn’t

    These are the error messages

The ‘og:image’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
    Missing Properties
    The following required properties are missing: og:url, og:type, og:title, og:image, og:description, fb:app_id

and for this post, there’s a different error

    Hello,

Disabling W3 Total Cache fixes the issue:

You have to check with the W3 Total Cache as the issue cannot be replicated when it is disabled – ore specifically the Browser Cache option. Your URLs are also showing a 206 response code instead of 200 when W3 Total Cache is enabled.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
