Hi Rank Math,

My page slugs keeps updating to another name. So for example I have a page called “1-op-1” and another one called “groepsdag”. The slugs have been similar to the name of the page. However when I make some changes on the “groepsdag” page, then sometimes the slug is changed to “1-op-1 2-2” It looks like these issues started when I installed Rank Math.

My permalink structure is correct. I don’t have another SEO plugin installed. If I manually change the slug, it keeps updating the slug at some point after i’ve made changes to the page.

2. Permalink Settings: Ensure that your permalink settings are configured correctly in the WordPress dashboard under Settings → Permalinks.
3. Rank Math Settings: Check if there are any specific settings in Rank Math that might be affecting how slugs are generated or updated. You can find these settings in the Rank Math dashboard.
To manually set a slug and prevent it from changing:
- In the Classic Editor, you can edit the slug just below the title box by clicking on the Edit icon next to the permalink.
- In the Gutenberg Editor, you can find the slug option in the Article → Permalink section.

Hello,

Apologies for the inconvenience.

The number is added if there are other URLs with the same slug. Please check your URLs as well if it’s getting duplicated.

If none, then this happens when the Redirect Attachments option is enabled on your site, and you have a media or attachment URL with the same slug.

If that is the case, you can re-upload the media with a different file name or at least rename the attachment URL to a different slug to avoid getting the -2 or -3 in the last part of the URL.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have no attachments with the same name currently but it keeps happening. Now it changed majority of the pages to home-2-2 and home 2-2-3 for example. I have turned off redirect attachments to see if it happens again.

Any other ideas what the reason could be?

Hello,

If there are no attachments, then you might have a term or other post type ending up with the same slug on your WordPress.

You may check that as well since Rank Math offers an option to remove the category base which can lead to this issue:
