  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the sitemaps returning a 404 error. It sounds like you’ve already taken some important steps to troubleshoot this problem. Here are a few additional suggestions that may help resolve the issue:

    1. Flush Permalinks: Sometimes, simply flushing the permalinks can resolve 404 errors. To do this, go to your WordPress admin area, navigate to Settings → Permalinks, and click the Save Changes button without making any changes. This can refresh the permalink structure and may fix the sitemap issue.
      Flush permalink settings

    2. Check for Plugin Conflicts: Ensure that there are no conflicting plugins that might be affecting the sitemap generation. You can use the Health Check plugin to help identify any conflicts.

    3. Review Robots.txt: Make sure that your robots.txt file is not blocking access to the individual sitemap files. You can check this by going to Rank Math SEO → General Settings → robots.txt.

    4. Check Server Configuration: Since you are using Cloudways, ensure that there are no server-level restrictions or configurations that might be causing the 404 errors for those specific sitemap files.

    5. Inspect .htaccess Rules: Double-check the .htaccess rules you applied from the Rank Math guide to ensure they are correctly set up and not causing any issues.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will take over and assist you further. Thank you for raising this concern, and we appreciate your patience as we work to resolve it!

    3. If the above steps don’t seem to work, kindly apply the following filter to your site.
