  • Hello,

I’m sorry to hear that you are facing issues with adding your sitemaps to Google Search Console and encountering the "no referring sitemap detected" error. To address these problems, we can follow the steps below:

Issue 1: Sitemaps Not Updating Correctly

    1. Validate Your Sitemap: Ensure your sitemap is correctly configured by using the Validate XML Sitemap tool.
      Validate Sitemap

    2. Ensure Sitemap Location: Make sure your sitemap is located in the root folder of your WordPress installation.
      Example: https://yourdomainname.com/sitemap_index.xml

    3. Check Index Settings: Verify that your posts are set to index in Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta.

Issue 2: "No Referring Sitemaps Detected"

The message "No referring sitemaps detected" is not an error but an indication that Google found your URL through means other than the sitemap, like backlinks.

To confirm if Google has indexed your URL, type `site:https://rankmath.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Couldnt-fetch-error-in-Google-Search-Console-1.png in the address bar. If it shows in search results, it’s indexed.

If you still face issues after following these steps, please feel free to reach out to our support team for further assistance.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

Why GSC Shows "No Referring Sitemaps Detected"

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and bringing your concern to our attention.

The “no referring sitemap detected” means the page has been discovered by Google, and Google knows about it.

Please note that a sitemap is only one of many ways Google discovers the URLs of your site. If Google discovers the URL through other means, it may not cross-reference your sitemap to check if the URL is there. Hence the “No referring sitemaps” message.

Also, the ‘Discovered Pages’ on Google Search Console tab only shows the number of pages that were discovered using the sitemap, and since the sitemap is not the only tool Google uses to discover pages, the number of ‘Discovered Pages’ might differ from your number of pages on your sitemap.

In fact, it could be a good sign, as it means that you have good internal linking that Google does not need a sitemap to find some of your pages.

If your pages are getting indexed, you don’t have to worry about this.

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.
