Sitemap type showing as sitemap_index after leaving WordPress

    Hello,

I recently migrated to Blogger from wordpress and I noticed my sitemap is still showing as sitemap_index type instead of the normal sitemap configuration for blogger sites.

This error has caused all my articles to be de-indexed.

Is there any cache to clear or is there a suggested fix to this?

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

If you’re referring to your submitted sitemaps in your Google Search Console account, you can remove the /sitemap_index URL and change it to your new sitemap file.

Here’s a helpful link you can follow:

    I hope that helps.

    Thank you.

How do I attach an image?

I’ve done that already but it’s still showing sitemap type as a sitemap index file.

    Hello,

You can share screenshots using https://imgbb.com/

    Looking forward to helping you.

Also, I don’t know if this is a rank math issue but one of my WordPress blog sitemap.xml has started redirecting to the homepage which is the root of how my problem started.

Please, could you guys see to this?

    Hello,

Kindly clear your website cache. The sitemap is generated by Blogger after I checked it on my end and I can’t find any traces of an old sitemap. This may be a caching issue from your end. Once you clear the caches, Google should be able to see the correct sitemap.

As for your WordPress site, can you please share the website URL so we can take a closer look at it?

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Alright thanks.

    Here’s the URL: Carautomotives.com

This sitemap.xml suddengly started showing as a html file in console and it’s redirecting to the homepage.

I’ve also done the normal troubleshooting methods by saving permalink and sitemap settings.

    Hello,

Please follow this guide to add the rewrite rules to your .htaccess file to fix the issue: https://rankmath.com/kb/fix-sitemap-issues/#apache-error

You can edit your .htaccess file from WP Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > Edit .htaccess.

Also, only submit the sitemap_index.xml in your GSC account. You shouldn’t submit any other sitemap there as Google will discover the sub-sitemaps from your main sitemap.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any other assistance.

    Thanks.
