Sitemap set to noindex

    Dear Rank Math Support Team,

I am experiencing an issue where my sitemap is marked as noindex, preventing my pages from being indexed by Google. Here is the sitemap in question: https://bulgi.shop/sitemap_index.xml. Below are the details of the issue:

    Issue Summary:
My website is built with WordPress, and I am using Rank Math SEO for optimization.
I have submitted my sitemap (sitemap_index.xml) to Google Search Console (GSC).
However, when checking the submitted sitemap in GSC, my pages are not being indexed.
When I use the Live URL Test feature in GSC, it reports that my sitemap contains a noindex marker, which prevents Google from crawling it.

    Troubleshooting Steps I Have Taken:

    Checked Rank Math Settings:
    – I reviewed the Sitemap Settings in Rank Math, but I could not find an option that sets the sitemap to noindex.
    – I confirmed that the “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” option is unchecked in Settings > Reading.
    – I removed the sitemap from GSC and re-added it.
However, the issue persists, and GSC still reports a noindex directive.
    – I checked the robot.txt, I am not sure if there are any issues present. I would attach it below and would appreciate it if you could assess it and let me know if there are any issues.

Could you please assist in resolving this issue? Is there a setting, update, or code fix that can ensure my sitemap is indexed properly?

    Thank you for your support.

    Best regards,
    Katrin Urumova

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your sitemap being marked as noindex. Thank you for providing detailed information about the steps you’ve taken so far.

To resolve the issue with your sitemap being marked as noindex, please follow these steps:

    1. Check Rank Math Metabox: Open the post/page in the WordPress Editor and check the Rank Math Metabox. Ensure that the Robots Meta is set to Index. If it’s set to No Index, select the Index checkbox and update the page.
Set Robots Meta to index in Rank Math Metabox

    2. Review Titles & Meta Settings: Navigate to WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta. Check each tab to ensure that noindex is not set as a default value for your posts or pages that you want indexed.
      Index tags

    3. Search Engine Visibility: Make sure that the Search engine visibility option is unchecked in WordPress. Go to Settings → Reading and confirm that this option is not checked.
Search engine visibility test from settings

    4. Check robots.txt: Ensure that there are no rules in your robots.txt file that might be blocking Google from accessing your sitemap. You can check this by going to Rank Math SEO → General Settings → robots.txt.

    5. Validate Fix in Google Search Console: After making these changes, head over to Google Search Console and use the Validate Fix option to inform Google about the changes made.
Validate fix for submitted URL marked noindex error

If you have followed these steps and the issue persists, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from our support team will take over and assist you further.

    Hello,

Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.

Please note that it is expected for the sitemap to have noindex as you don’t want the sitemap to get indexed on the SERP.

Please refrain from submitting your sitemap in Google’s URL Inspection tool. The correct way to submit your sitemap to Google is by following this guide: https://rankmath.com/kb/submit-sitemap-to-google/

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hello,
