Sitemap of one language includes 404 pages and posts of another language

    We have discussed this with management and the problem is that we have 680 posts on our Estonian language version. We have seven translation languages. Most of the posts are 1000 words in length. We will never have a budget to translate all posts to all languages. We mostly translate strategic content which is 10–20 posts per language. At the moment language versions do not index correctly because of the faulty sitemaps. What would be the solution for us? Should we change SEO plugin or add another sitemap plugin?

    Hello,

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math support.

    Even if some of your sitemaps are returning a 404 error, it won’t cause any issues with the indexing or ranking of your site. Google will still be able to read and index the sitemaps with posts in them.

    However, if you don’t want to see 404 errors for your sitemaps in your GSC account, you can submit the sub-sitemaps that are working correctly in your GSC account instead of submitting the main sitemap.

    You can also try using a different sitemap plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/ to create the sitemap and see if it works correctly with your setup. Please make sure to disable the Sitemap module of our plugin in WP Dashboard > Rank Math SEO > Dashboard.
